I'm no baseball fan, but I believe it's in the character of the cities. NY shrewd and all business, takes whatever to make money...or win; Boston, more sentimental, like the river meader the city...cares more about loyalty and give your best player the respect and chance for the glory.

You have to believe the curse. I am not so superstitious before this game, but tonight I do believe there are ghosts in the stadium. One of the greatest comeback I ever see in my life!!! And Yankee all the way!!!
Please stop with the curse. No Red Sox fans believe in the curse that actually follow the team. If you want to talk about a curse, talk about what a moron Grady Little is. What did tonight have to do with ghosts? Nothing. It had to do with Grady's experiment to see how many pitches it took for Petey's arm to fall off. we didn't quite figure it out, but apparently it's right around 123. Look how well the bullpen held through the 8th after Embree came in all the way through the 10th. If we bring in relief to start the 8th we win. It's that simple.

I honestly dont see how people can think that Boston choaked. They faught their way back to force game 7 and just blew it by leaving their their starter in too long. And Mariano Rivera is really good.

I'm an Astros fan, but I was pulling for the Sox. Bummer. Left Pedro in too long (which I'm sure zillions have already said... haven't read the whole thread) and the manager should get shown the door. I couldn't believe he left him in. What a chump. I was hoping for a Boston/Chicago Series. That would have been great!
If I were told in advance how game 7 would end, with absolute definitely, it would rank as the most painful moment in sporting history. From my perspective, at least. As of now, I really can't say that it is. Although, through my lifelong passion of sports, I have never had this type of reaction to an event. There have been plenty of moments that simply devastated me. And as I type this, the impossibly modest Wake, has done nothing but shoulder the burden and blame himself for the outcome. It's one thing to see your team surrender a game winning homer. To see a player having to restrain such mournful emotion in regards to it, is what really overwhelms me. And that's why I can't claim total defeat. As a fan of a pitcher, that is overlooked by most of society and almost labeled a mere novelty to others, snatch the global headlines once again. Is pure, unadulterated ecstasy. Tim Wakefield was given the opportunity to pitch, a task which is all I ask for, and was brilliant. Two gorgeous, absolutely necessary wins, a would be alcs mvp trophy, and brought the Red Sox to within five outs of the World Series. For that, I cannot summon a single disparaging remark. By all means, I'm disappointed that the Sox didn't win, but that doesn't deter from all the joy I've experienced this season and post season.

Dude, amen to that. I was sick all night. So close... But it was a fun season. If you can't win with Pedro Martinez starting, there's nothing more you can do. Sigh. At least basketball season is here.
I dunno. It's easy to second-guess, but I think that was Pedro's call. He was why the Red Sox were there to begin with, he's proven himself to be the best pitcher in the league, and he's battled outta worse situations than that. I think it was the right call. Just the wrong outcome. I couldn't believe some of Grady Little's moves in the series (you don't bench Walker -- your hottest hitter -- because a left-handed hitter is on the mound!), but I think that particular call was the right one. A Boston/Chicago series would have been the best thing to happen to baseball in years. Oh, well.
coming in here late, but just wanted to say that having been a yankees fan since 1984, when i was just a wee lad learning to read by thumbing through yankees lore. back in the days when they were perennial also-rans to boston and toronto and couldn't BUY a place in the playoffs. it took 10 long years of waiting for the yanks to get there, and their dominance since then has been an absolute pleasure for me. nonetheless, poor sox! pedro actually reminds me of another great sox icon and tragic figure: ted williams.
