Anyone else play any rec. softball? My team had our first game today. Normally, in the years past, we sucked. Today, though, we actually ten runned a team. AWESOME! I think we're gonna pull a Detroit Tigers this year. The thing that sucked, though, is that I haven't played in two years. I started at catcher, and showed a bit of my rust. I had like 4 passed balls (mostly when someone swung, as I wasn't used to the bat flashing in my face before catching the ball). You could also tell that I hadn't batted in two years. My first at bat, I struck out swinging, and my second, I hit a slow roller of an infield single. I got an RBI, though. We're 1 and 0! How's your team doing?
Our last game is tomorrow...so far this season we've run-rulled a team...and we also GOT run-rulled. If we win tomorrow (we should) we'll end up 4-4. Smack dab in the middle of the pack. We lost our last game by 1 point. sucks. but its fun.
Man this thread got me missing playing either baseball or softball, I definitely need to get back into it........need to find a team...
Cal up the city rec. department. They should be able to find something for you. Or you could always do the unthinkable, and organize a Clutchfans softball team (which I'd love to play on if I were in Houston).
The only thing is...it might be too late into a season. I know up here, our first game was last night, but I think our season starts late because of weather (It's still 50 degree highs here). Down there, there might be a bunch of seasons already over. But then again, maybe there are leagues all through the year because of the weather....
We just won our Friday night co-ed league last night =) We finished 11-1 overall. back-to-back champs!! You might wanna try calling the Houston Sportplex to see if they can host one-day tournaments.
id be down to play in a league or just a 1 day activity...whoever wants to get together let me know. maybe we can get a team together for a coming season (like we did for bball - Bus Stop Stalkers). it would be fun to have a baseball team...nice change of pace.
I play on a team in Austin. I've been with them for 4 years. The team has been together for 26 years now. They also mostly grew up together playing little league in the Memorial area, went to UT and still do it every Sunday. I'm the youngest player by 10 years and I'm 30. Out of the 4 seasons we play each year, we typically win 3 of them. Last year, we had a 24 game win streak. Just haven't been able to to pull off the grand slam of winning all 4 seasons. Maybe this year. We already took the Spring title and are tied for 1st in the Summer 1 season (beating one team 33-0). Just after each game we head to the Posse East for many beers. Unfortunately for me, I broke my ankle a couple of weeks ago playing in a soccer tournament. I'm out for another 5 or 6 weeks. I hate watching, but the beer makes it ok.
I really missed playing baseball/softball so was gald to get back on the field this spring...just finished up a season and will be starting up a new one this week. Glad too, cause I was still shaking off the rest at the end of this last season.
Anyone else have any updates? I finally got my swing back to where it was. We had a double header last Friday, in which I went 4 for 5 with a cycles and 3 rbis. I should have had two home runs, but the first game, we were beating the team so bad that I just walked to second base for my double. Something I was directed to do. I felt stupid for doing it though. Oh well. I love this sport.
To clarify, I know my dad used to play in some slow and fast pitch leagues in and around Houston (usually Northwest Houston, though....Spring, Klein, Tomball, etc.). I'm not sure how he got in, but I'd assume if you called the rec department, they could direct you somewhere.
