I keep saying it over and over again WE NEED MORE REBOUNDING Less Turn overs and More Rebounds Esp on the offensive board . . .. Our second chance points need to improve. I think we lessen our turnovers would help But man . . . We had 5 Offensive Rebounds last night compared to 18 17 turnovers to 21 turnovers People b****ing about Steve and Turnovers BUT THAT DID NO LOSE THE GAME LAST NITE! Perhaps they came at the wrong time but we actually had less than they did The MAJOR difference is 5 to 18 second chances Turnover wise. . .we go 4 more shots Rebound wise. . they got 13 more shots and we lost by 8 Blame Steve all you want . . BUT WE NEED TO HIT THE FRICKIN BOARDS AS A TEAM I don't like JVG CONCEDING the offensive rebound Rocket River
It doesn't help that MoT is terrible at rebounding, Yao couldn't get near the basket if he wanted to, and that our bench consists of 3 Knick players that were playing since I was a baby. I agree though, we got mutilated on the boards lastnight. I can't believe I am going to say this, but we need Cato so bad. I guess you never appreciate something until it's gone, but look at our D when Cato isn't in. The rotation isn't good, we have no help defense, and we don't rebound.
we lost because yao ming had an off game... if he made 50% of his shots.. .like he usually does... we would have won. but i do agree we need rebounding... and that is where cato comes in.... mo taylor is nothing but a chris webber clone (jump shooting PFs).. with even less of an inside game.. we also need the guards to penetrate more and get some fouls... like kobe and payton does for the faker.
Not only rebounds, but the loose balls as well. The Lakers hustled or were in position for just about every loose ball in the second half. How many times did Francis fall down in the 4th quarter. I thought the most pathetic was when Fisher was guarding him, he lost control, and tried to regain his balance while pushing Fisher -> Offensive foul on Steve.
oh... and yao ming is a terrible terrible rebounder... i cannot believe how slow his reaction time is... he missed so many rebounds... and he is always a step slower when it comes to rebounding... most of the rebounds yao ming gets are easy ones that come right to him... he can never get a rebound that bounces awkwardly off the rim...
Rebouding killed us last night, so did the turnovers. I just can't believe JJ mishandled two fastbreaks in the crucial run last night, the latter one drove SF crazy, like he always did to us, and he had to make a phone call home for help. Missing rebound gives opponents more possessions and turnovers takes away own possessions, so they are basically doing the same damage.
YM is not a rebound as we all know. Last night, he take all his attension and energy to hold shaq and CATO is out. These are the reason why. Basic, they have Mail and Shaq and what you expect. At least, we did better job than MIN and SAC. We are in game until late 4 qtr
The Turnovers evened out last nite. . . Heck we even won that battle Yea Yao had a bad game. . but that happens If we rebounded better. . IT WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE I think better concentration on the Boards would overcome alot of Turnovers and mistakes Rocket River
Well we are missing our best rebounder (per minutes played Cato is our best rebounder) and the other forwards we have are all undersized or not good rebounders. The Lakers getting offensive rebounds from the FT line drove me nuts.. (please box out guys) J
But RR, You have to understand we are not a bad rebounding team, most nights we outrebounded oppenents. But we are a bad bad turnover team, in fact we are near the bottom of that category. We do have rooms to improve on our rebounding, especially offense board, but not nearly as urgent as cutting our turnovers. Turnovers is the No1 problem for the Rox, that is the reason we couldn't close out the game even we had a big lead.
it seemed to me the strategy going into the game was to have the big men just concentrate on boxing out (particularly yao v shaq), while the 2, 3, & 4 crash the boards. the 3 (jackson) was spectacular. the 2 & 4 were not. as athletic as motay is, i still have difficulty understanding why he doesn't get more boards. the only thing i can see is that he boxes out reasonably well, but just chooses not to go after the ball aggressively afterwards. i've seen that plenty of times with motay. as for cat v kobe, i can't fault cat too much. kobe's stronger than he is, and if he wants to get around cat while going for a board, he pretty much can do it at will. i also noticed that it was feast or famine on the boards many times. we'd either have 5 men under the rim going for the rebound or one (yao). the answer is that we don't have an answer. sad, but true. we need, in the offseason, to acquire a legit power forward. and we need for yao to grab - at least - ten to eleven boards on every single night. as much as it may bother people on the bbs, we really have missed eddie griffin. he not only was our answer to covering the long 3's and 4's of the nba (particularly the west conf.), but he was looking like a natural rebounder, as well. DearRock will love to hear this, and i don't like saying it, but james posey fits into this category as well (better job v kobe). our situation, imo, is eerily similar to what we went through post 86 with lloyd, wiggins, and lucas. what we needed, we had, then (due to no fault of our own) lost. it'll be interesting to see how quickly we address/recover from this situation.
We're among the top 10 in rebounding teams, but from what I recall one of the 2 or 3 worst offensive rebounding teams.
We usually have Cato. I counted a few times where Mo was beat for a rebound that I couldnt see Cato being beat to. No bench scoring. Yao was ice cold for whatever reason. One thing that drove me crazy was the Lakers play the passing lanes hardcore. Steve just dribbles back and forth, telegraphs everything around the arc, and isn't even quick about passing when he makes up his mind. He needs to better take advantage of split second oppurtunities. The defense wont just stop being in front of you dude. It almost seemed like Francis was trying to run pick and roll but everyone else thought they were working it around the arc. To his credit tho, the p&r that I saw worked pretty well. Mobley was the only effective one tonight, cutting and pull ups. Spoon did ok too.
Can't some of the Off Rebounding woes come from heavily relying on transition D to contain fast break opportunities? JVG is defensive minded in that regard...I guess you take the good (less fast breaks) with the bad (low offensive boards) Although last night showed how much a difference someone like Cato makes when you have a good number of guys already running back on defense after a shot. And we lost with a higher shooting % right?
