If we want Webber, chances are it will be a sign and trade with Sacremento. Webber may not want to leave, but he sure as hell doesn't want leave the team in ruin. As we've seen, there is very little top FA movement without the assistance of the sign and trade. If we want anyone to sign here, chances are they will try to negotiate a little something for everyone. For this reason, don't worry about creating capspace by trading Walt or Cato. Put them together in the offseason with some draft picks and that could seal the deal for someteam.

I've been thinking about this regarding CW's comments. He likes the Kings, he's just bored with the town. Put together a decent package for the Kings, and it would definitely help our chances. Sacramento has the same problem that a lot of NBA cities have (Vancouver, Miluakee, Detroit). For some reason or another, there just isn't a lot of FA attention. For that reason, Sacramento isn't going to care about creating cap space. They need decent players under contract and some decent draft picks.

I think we all know that we are one or two players away from competing annually for the championship. Hopefully those moves will happen this summer. Summer is a magical time for NBA players. It's when players value skyrocket's based on "potential" and a single playoff showing (Croshere) rather than their real contribution. I kno wit will be hard for ev eryone to watch the trade deadline pass without significant moves, but remember, players like Cato and Williams will only see their value increase into the summer. That's when the Rocket's rebuilding will be complete.

I think that the Kings could probably get a better S&T deal than Cato and Williams for Webber.... of course a lot of it depends on where Webber wants to play, and if he wants to play in Houston then we're going to have the option of signing him outright! I see no reason to throw a couple of draft picks in to sweeten the deal for the Kings unless Webber instructs management to do so - and why would he if he wanted to play here?

Nice post, Rocketsauce. I haven't really thought about until you mentioned it, but not knowing whether or not Webber will be signing outright as a free agent, and as going with a sign and trade will greatly affect the Rockets and their chances of landing him. The fact is, if we don't unload any more salary, then we will have enough to offer Webber the max... but if we trade for more cap space, and he goes with a sign and trade with the Kings... who will we have to offer if Cato and Williams are gone? KT? Mooch? Not much to offer since I think it is safe to say that Cat and Steve are untouchable...

Personally, if it comes to a sign and trade, I don't think the Rockets would be able to get Webber to our team... Now if he just signs as a free agent, then I think we have the inside track...

How often is he really in Sacramento? What, 80 days a year with all the traveling and 4-5 month off-season.

These guys really have it tough. Wonder what Bailey Howell would say?

Webber has already said he isn't necessarily looking for the highest salary. So I don't think it'll come to a sign and trade. It'll come down to the best situation for him to have a good time and win some basketball games.
