Well, Bayern has already put four or more past Real three times. Damnit, after seeing the first half, I don't have a lot of hope... Bayern is too indecisive today. Why did they not show one angle on TV where one could have seen whether Zidane was offside in the situation before he scored? Ugh. I'm afraid Real will win it. It's Bayern's own fault for not having started aggressively enough, like they did in Munich. Once they got angry, they had big chances in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
I never shed a tear when Bayern lose. They just lack creative players. Rely too much on long balls to Makaay. Hey, at least this year you went out of the group stage.
Both games together, I think Bayern was the better team - with one exception - Zidane. That guy makes all the difference. Watching him play is like hearing a Bach concert or looking at a beautiful painting. I was highly disappointed with Ballack. 19-year old Schweinsteiger showed more balls than Ballack. Ballack was basically hiding all game. Bayern's two most creative players - Scholl and Deisler - were out due to injuries. Salgado should have been sent off after his second hard foul that was worthy of a yellow card.
Scholl and Deisler versus Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.. Hmmm.. I told you they wouldn't win it SJC. I honestly thought they'd beat THIS Real, but they couldn't even do THAT. Overall, Bayern have been mediocre this season and didn't deserve anything. No league, no cup, no champions league, am I correct? Real will go on to win this one if Ronaldo comes back healthy.
Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos were both playing in the first game (even though Roberto Carlos should have been sent off before that lucky free-kick, for hitting Demichelis in the face). I hate smartasses like you who come out of the woodworks after the game and say "I told you so". Real cleared on the line once and Casillas saved two dangerous shots, too. Bayern did not play well today, though, so it is deserved that they did not make it to the next round. Bayern still has a chance to win the league, but it is not looking very good this year, Bremen looks better.
Well SJC, it looks like both of our team will have a rare season without a trophy, unless Man Utd can beat Arsenal in the FA Cup semis.
I missed this thread, SJC, and I don't like miss an opportunity to disagree with you about Bayern! At least you haven't lost to the winners. I can't see Real, with their defence, beating teams like Arsenal and AC Milan over two legs. Man Utd is out, too. It's been a good round of games for me!
Comin out of the woods? I told you they wouldn't make it in every soccer thread started. Bayern could've thrashed Real in the second game, and they SHOULD'VE. Clearing on the line and good saves are NOT luck, they're just signs of a good team. If you had, for example, hit the post on a one-on-one, then you could say it was bad luck. If you were wrongfully ruled offside, then you could make another case as well. The worst defense in the entire Champions league, and you couldn't manage a goal. Note: Carlos' shot was anything but lucky. Someone with his history of scoring freekicks, and you label it "luck"? Come on, it was a product of the power he put on the shot and Kahn's clumsiness. "Luck" had nothing to do with it. Man U, Juve and Bayern are out - it's like heaven.
I agree with your sentiments in the rest of the post, but actually, Roberto Carlos has never scored regularly from free kicks. It's just that when he does, they're spectacular.
And to think that you could have at least preserved your reputation as someone who at least knows soccer, Sane...after you already trashed it with regards to basketball and politics/religion...too bad. You manage to contradict yourself easily in your own post (as usual) by saying clearing on the line and good saves are a sign of a good team (thereby obviously referring to their defense) and then saying they have the worst defense in the entire Champions League. Congratulations. That shot by Carlos was not even powerful at all, Kahn just totally messed up. Anyway, the one thing where you are right is that Bayern was too passive and should have pushed much more, and that it is their own fault they did not score. Real's defense is really not very good.
