Are the Rockets going after Lewis this summer? I think he's a free agent and maybe he can come cheap.
In the playoffs, he proved that with some playing time he can produce and is ready for the NBA.
I think he is ready to start at sf for the Rockets.
    Tell me what you think.

Three reasons Rashard Lewis won't be here:

    1. He's not going to come cheap. He's going to command more than the 2 million the rockets can afford to pay.

    2. Seattle can match any offer Rashard gets, and if they do that, he has to stay with the team.

    3. Supposedly, Rashard is #2 on the Sonics' list of players to keep right behind Gary Payton.

For these three reasons, I feel the chances of Rashard Lewis becoming a Rocket to be very, very slim.

Thanks Oakdogg, now I'm in the loop. It's tuff being a Rocket fan in Miami, thank god for dss and the internet. Its also tuff watching the Heat play in the playoffs.
Back on Rashard, I guess the Rockets should've drafted him a couple of years ago when they had the chance

Well, if we get rid of Cato, as has been talked about. We should make him an offer. I dont know if he would accept it though. He may have unkind feelings for Houston after passing him up.

As pure illustration once again of the trade value of our exception, here's a scenario where Seattle trades with us:

    1. We pick a SF or SG at #9.
    2. Seattle finds that Lewis wants more than they can pay, so they work a sign-n-trade with Houston
    3. Seattle gets our #9 and our trade exception. We get Lewis at $4m Early Bird and he still has Big Bird in two years.

(the salary matching to transfer the full Trade Exception Coupon to lower Seattle by $4.4m in salary are minor details.)

What I'm illustrating here once again, is we have all heard how much CD likes the trade exception. I'm sure every other GM covets it as well. I contend that our trade exception all by itself is our most coveted trade bait (aside from tr a d in g Mo bl e y -- man, that is hard to type).

Seattle gets our #9 and a $4.5m trade exception to begin pulling their own magical trades.

guys,my young brother is a friend of Rashard and he says that Rashard still wants to play for the rockets,he has gotten over them not picking him,he actually thinks going to the sonics really helped him alot, but his dream is to win a title for his hometown, but it will be hard to get him because the sonics can match a contract offered by any other team(like the Cat and rockets)unless we do a trade.

yeah, I would be ecstatic if the Rockets could get him. However, the Sonics really like him as they should, and I don't see how they would trade him. Really, I probably would rather him over Mobley after watching him in the Jazz series. He really is impressive.

Only way to get outta town in that kinda situation is to force a Sign-and-trade, by telling management you want out.

Of course, that's a very unpopular manuver- He could tell them how much he wants...and then say.."oh, I hear Houston's got 4.5 and #9 that they'd be willing to trade..."

We'll see how this summer plays out. I too have been really impressed by Lewis's play both inside and outside. Not sure if he's as explosive as some players available in the draft, but he's young and has proven his ability.

Any chance Rashard is represented by Dan Fegan?

I know Shawn Marrion isn't a FA, and he's only a rookie this year. But he's really really athletic. Have you seen his shooting and his Jumping ablity?

Lewis' agent is Carl Poston. The same guy who supposedly said that the Sonics should get rid of Ruben Patterson so Rashard could start (he denied it, of course).
