I can't believe how far Randall's has fallen. I worked 10 years for Randall's. I started in 1977 in the Flagship store #1, 290 and 43rd. At that time there were 10 Randall's stores in the city of Houston. I remember when it seemed like they were opening a new store every month. The Jones Road store is closing. I worked there for the Grand Opening. Some good people worked in that store. The store on Highway 6 is closing. I worked there for a year. Hopefully all these employees will move to other stores or have another job lined up. My thoughts and prayers will be for all the great people I knew and worked with through the years. Stores that will be closing: Article in the Houston Chronicle: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/business/3402886#
They are closing the one closest to me - but it was a little run-down anyway. This makes 4 grocery store closings within 4 miles of me in the last 1.5 years - and only one opening.
Are you serious?????? BTW, is it because BobFinn* is the elder statesman here that no one's posted a link to the thread from yesterday??
i'm totally serious. it's awful. memorial and dairy ashford. the store stinks..literally it smells bad in there. it's very small...and not nice at all.
we normally shop at the randall's at memorial and dairy ashford or the one in town & country village. the kroger is closer on memorial, but it's not as nice. my wife prefers kroger over everyone...she'll drive to the kroger at eldridge and briar forest, which is a nice store.
We shopped at that Randall's on Bissonet when I was a kid, but that place should have closed DECADES ago. That immediate surrounding neighberhood isn't exactly consistent with the types of neighberhoods ($$) that the other Randall's are in.
Randal's ceased to be Randal's when they sold out to Safeway..the same Safeway that was run out of Texas 10 years ago.
what's her name again??? by the Joaquin is in my office with me right now...getting ready to head to soccer practice. THANK YOU WHITE SOX FOR FINISHING OFF THE ANGELS SO THERE'S NO CONFLICT WITH NLCS GAME 6...WHICH WOULD HAVE MEANT A 3 PM START FOR THE NLCS!
I remember that. That store opening was a BIG DEAL. Every kid at Cy Creek (including me) wanted to work there. I heard they had a waiting list of kids wanting to be checkers or baggers. It was the first grocery store in that area to have a video department, restaurant, and other things besides just groceries. I'm lucky to have a Kroger about 2 minutes from my house. It's a nice one too. Love that Kroger card. And the self check line.
No doubt about that. I couldn't believe when I heard Randall's sold to Safeway. I guess when Robert Onstead died the family and others decided to sell. It's a shame because they worked so hard to build a reputation of Quality and Service that was well respected all around the country. Safeway never gave a crap about any of that.
I mostly shop at the HEB right across the street from the Randalls on Bissonette. If I can't find a certain product at HEB, then I go over to that high priced Randalls across the street.
