i remember during the start of the season, JVG commented on Stro's poor conditioning. he doesn't have the stamina to continuously run up and down the floor. i think that's why we could only see spurts from Stro. it is usually during offseason that they work on these. the same way they did on yao the previous year.
Awesome game last night, but I still saw allot of backdoor and fast break opportunities for stro. Any player would say that all you need to do is throw the ball near the bucket and a good percent of the time it will result in a throw down! This would be great if implemented.
REALLY good first half, but didnt do much in the 2nd half. Good game though! EDIT: 12 and 6 in 20 minutes
this is quote he's taking that from: "All the great perimeter scorers in this league have a better chance in transition than they do against set defense to get to the line," Van Gundy said. "There's less you can do to scheme in transition. That's not Tracy's greatest strength, but I think it would really help him to get out more actively because I think he could find more freedom, more room to move." other than saying mcgrady's a better half-court player then transition player(which is probably true) there is nothing in there that remotely implies van gundy doesn't like to run. if you take that quote with these from the same article: "Rafer's greatest strength would be that," Van Gundy said. "We want to take advantage of that. To do it, we have to have guys willing to run, and when they do run, reward them. "If you want to run, you have to be able to get stops, get rebounds, have a point guard who advances it and has good decision-making capabilities, wings who are willing to get ahead of the ball and a big man willing to get ahead of the ball. You have to get a 4-on-3. That's not been our greatest strength." it seems like van gundy WANTS to run and get easy baskets. i thought that was obvious from everything that we saw last year and his constant harping on them to push the ball this year. these jvg haters don't have many facts to stand on.
