Guy has all the skills he needs to play his position. Decent outside shooter, good passer, good open court player, good ball handler, until he has to carry the load. Rafer all last season looked great when he played with Yao and T-Mac, looked terrible when they were out. Cannot create without space created due to being on the floor with superstars. Can shoot wide open jumpers until there is no one on the court to force teams to lay off him. All that being said, I think rafer is a keeper because you aren't gonna win without tracy and yao so it doesn't matter if they are out or at least one is out because the rockets aren't going anywhere without them anyway.
He only played 22 games with Yao and T-Mac last year and he shot 37.5% from the floor and 30.3% from three (4.5 threes a night). That is hideous. Rafer is capable of having a good game, but over the long haul he will kill you shooting the ball. In the playoffs he will be death.
Can't be more hideous than a 0-6 shooting night from three point range. Sometimes I wonder if Alston is trying to pad down his stats...........
Davis Carr plays like a pro bowler when things are going good around him, ie. D creating turnovers, AJ making big plays, running game, good line play etc. etc. Skip I guess is that way although he is never "that good" or "that bad" like Carr is
I usually avoid the constant uproar of <insert name> sucks/should be fired. Despite my past optimisim that Rafer is a solid starting pg for our team, now I can't help but feel he is just 'serviceable.' Yes, he's hit some clutch shots, but that's about 5% of the time. Actually in clutch time he's still more likely to jack up heavily contested shots w/ Tmac and Yao still on the floor. But it's true he's still our best pg so we're just going to have to deal with it.
Rafer is an accurate passer. Carr is an accurate passer. Rafer takes too many shots. Carr takes too many shots. Rafer went to Fresno State. Carr went to Fresno State. Rafer normally doesn't turn the ball over, but occasionally has a dumb moment. Carr normally doesn't turn the ball over, but occasionally has a dumb moment. That was fun. Now lets do one for Mario and Van Gundy.
Rafer should be benched for Head. Carr should've been benched/cut for Young (Leinert, Cutler) Rafer was traded for Mike James. Carr was taken instead of Julius Peppers, Roy Williams, Dwight Freeney. Rafer is to blame for his team's losses as much or more than anyone. Carr is to blame for the team's losses as much or more than anyone. (Yeah, so I'm a Cowboys fan )
Congrats on 10 years of no playoff wins, not to say a Texan fan can talk smack but I don't want to hear smack talk from some guy whos team has had less playoff success than the Arizona Cardinals this past decade
The difference between Rafer and Carr, is that Carr was a #1 overall draft pick. If anything compare Carr to Yao! Carr should be an all-star and capable of carrying the Texans. Rafer is an average point guard we pay a little bit more than the MLE. Rafer is what he is, servicable but not much more. If we could trade Rafer for a better point guard we would but what trade options do we have?
I would just like to clear this up for you. Rafer is making below the MLE, and will never make above the MLE.
but that's sort of my point, its really not a knock on either one of them. they are both servicable in the right situation. but neither one of them is going to make plays in adverse situations.
Why do you guys have to insult Skip like that, he's not playing well, but damn, don't call him DAVID CARR!!
