I think in all of the fan's furore over tonight's loss and McGrady's total absence, Alston's effort has gone unnoticed. Sure when he does a Brickston night everybody hates on him, but tonight he did well, and was, IMO, the main reason why we managaed to stay in the game for the first 2 1/2 quarters.

congrats to Rafer Alston, on 8-11 shooting,4-7 from three, 4 assists, 2 steals (and unfortunately with 3 TOs)

I'm not really a Rafer fan but I will be the first to admit that if it wasn't for him this game could have gotten really out of hand. Rafer you have my respect for the Cavs game, now just please keep it up. I was actually hoping Rafer got a technical to fire everyone up, this guy not only out performed Tmac but he did it at a quarter of the price.

Rafer is the man. Sometimes you get frustrated with him. Sometimes you adore him. but I always support and applaud him. the man has love for this team. AB0 was doing a terrific job while he was out. but tonight was like rafer diving at the ball cp3 let bounce upcourt last year. people forget. but that moment last year was so freaking awesome for this team.

you guys are probably smater than i am. cuz im just a dumb ass Houston rockets fan who can't interpret stats or can't articulate with basketball jargon. but , this is my squad. and i enjoy rooting for this team and every squad member, even Luke Head my good sir.

    happy holidays.

I always was voting for Rafer as our starting PG. I think we need Brooks to develop a bit more, maybe next year he will be ready. He is only a sophmore!

    We have Chuck Scolandry,

Can we have a Rafooks? Alrooks? Albrooks? Nevermind we will figure that out later, what is important is that they combined for 30 pts!

that is impressive, i missed the second half for a family dinner, recorded it, but fell asleep haha, i had a feeling he would have a good game, he usually does when he comes off those minor injuries. he and brooks have been playing exceptional...indeed, good for them

Since the other one got locked might as well bump it, even though we just need an official "Players appreciation thread"

I admit I underestimate the guy,he is a major part of out recovery. We can't win without him playing at a high level.

I'll appreciate if Rafer take less shots.

our offense is much more smooth and fluid with rafer running the point. whenever rafer has a bad shooting night, everyone makes knee jerk threads about how aaron brooks should be the starting point guard.

Rafer + motion offense > Rafer + half court?

What did you mean? When Yao plays, it's still half court, and Rafer is still the PG.

    Past two games

    20.5 ppg (41 points), 9.5 apg (19 assists), 0.5 tpg (1 turn over), 1.5 spg (3 steals), on 50% shooting.

Playing playing in Jesus mode, like an all-star point guard.

i must say rafer is really doing well ... he's attacking the basket and actually occasionally finishing ... i like it :)

his jumper is also pretty on as of late. ive seen rafer pull up off the dribble and shoot before but not often have i seen rafer pull up off the dribble and swish the shot. it's been happening a lot more than ive ever seen of him. and it's not like with his scoring frequency that his assists and running the team is being affected. his assists are up there and he and scola are playing well together especially (last night at least ... i don't get to watch every game like i used to).

congratz rafer. i hope you play like this come playoff time.

ive been fellin the love 4 skip, too. he is a great quarterback & i do not want to trade him. he seems to be a streaky shooter, though, just hot right now. i hope that he is in a groove that will last til June. we shall see.

Nope, when Yao's in the game, especially the last few, the ball's really been moving around. The motion offense in the last few games before McGrady and Artest came back really looked good.

Check out these comments from a Pistons blog on Sunday's game in Detroit:

    http://www.pistonpowered.com/2009/01/game-review-houston-108-detroit-105/

Part of Houston’s undoing in the fourth quarter was Rafer Alston’s to decision to take the game into his own hands. In the fourth quarter, he took more shots than the rest of the game combined and had just one assists (nine entering with no turnovers).

    Duh ... no kidding.

When TSlack and Airballston start to think that they are great shooters, we're in deep trouble.
