I went to something similar to this in middle school. We went to some Puritan farm or something and some of the kids got to pick cotton. I was too busy running around like an idiot under the hot Texas sun.
We did something similar at the end of highschool. Went on farms and worked an entire day doing totally useless crap with no adults around us. I really thought that whole place was abandoned and they just made us do it all for show. Didn't have any cotton fields around, not that it would have made a story. I think we had a whooping 3-4 black kids in our whole 400+ graduating class and none of them seem the type to jump on every "questionable" issue and pull out the race card.
Do they fly? I forgot what grade it was, but we went to the George Ranch. They made us dig up cow ****.
The only thing I remember was milking a cow on a farm somewhere. But I think that was with a YMCA day camp one summer and not a school field trip.
