I think he was just using fried chicken as an example of eating unhealthy in prison. Cheeseburgers or pizza would have been a smarter example though given our PC culture and Fuzzy Zoeller's comments in the past.
I don't think he meant it as racism.. just easily taken the wrong way. But seriously.. why are African Americans stereotyped as always eating fried chicken? Everybody eats them, they're DELICIOUS! Like Dave Chappelle once said, if you don't like fried chicken, there's something wrong with you.
"All these years I thought I liked chicken 'cause it was delicious. Turns out I'm genetically predisposed to liking chicken! I got no say in the matter." <object width="300" height="80"><param name="movie" value="http://media.imeem.com/m/H5ajDwY1nJ/aus=false/"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://media.imeem.com/m/H5ajDwY1nJ/aus=false/" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="300" height="80" wmode="transparent"></embed></object> I don't think it was a racist comment. We should deal with actual racism that affects people, instead of bull**** like this or the Imus thing.
Even if it was racist (which would be ridiculous), he owed it to Mike. The way Vick screwed that organization I'm surprised he hasn't said more. I sincerely hope some organization doesn't come out and make him apologize, I would personally be embarrassed.
A least he didn't call him a "little monkey" like Howard Cosell. Wasn't it Fuzzy Zoeller who said Tiger Woods better not have fried chicken served at Augusta? What's the deal with fried chicken?
http://www.netglimse.com/celebs/pages/howard_cosell/index.shtml "Cosell drew criticism during one Monday Night Football telecast in September 1983, for stating "look at that little monkey go," when he referred to a play by receiver Alvin Garrett of the Washington Redskins regarding a run after a reception. While some saw "little monkey" as a racial slur, others who knew Cosell were quick to point out that he used this term routinely in an approving way to describe quicker, smaller players of all ethnicities. Among the evidence adduced to support this claim is video footage of a 1972 preseason game, between the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs, during which Cosell refers to Mike Adamle, a 5-foot-9-inch, 197-pound European-American, as a "little monkey."
For people who filter all issues through a prism of race, nearly everything can be perceived as racist. For those with more objectivity, it may be construed as racially insensitive, and in retrospect, I'm sure he would have used a less polarizing example.
Okay, what's the over/under on Jesse Jackson's chiming in? And should the units be minutes, hours, or days?
Yep, it's hard to tar Cosell with the racist charge, particularly given many of his stances on the real issues of his time... that whole monkey thing was more of a way of getting to him by the many people who disliked his attitude and personality.
For the record, I like fried chicken. The best piece is a nicely fried wing... it has the perfect proportion of meat to fried so you get that delicious mix in each bite. Plus, you get to eat fried chicken with your hands. I don't care how good it is, it's never as good with a fork... you've got to use your fingers and teeth to scrape every last tasty morsel off of them bones and it's much more satisfying that way. Edit: I forgot to add that I am white. Really, really white.
i dont like fried chicken. i love other kind of chicken, just the fried part messes it up, its too much. i kind of get disgusted after a while. i dont understand how i cant eat fried chicken and easily be able to eat chicken tenders. maybe there is something wrong with me.
i can confirm that if you don't like fried chicken something is definitely wrong with you. good god-fearin' irish-americans like me eat fried chicken. you should, too.
