Right. And since it isn't going to be resolved "shortly" it would be a better idea to ignore it, especially at a time when American religious leaders are hosting Koran burnings and calling for a nationwide ban on mosque building. Accepting that things would never change also worked out great with women's rights and civil rights by the way. An excellent idea!
Are you suggesting that the study and video that accompanied it was inaccurate simply because it was on video? For the sake of clarification, Breitbart is not on staff at CNN, nor did he participate in the study. I watched a five year old black girl say she wanted to be white because being brown was "nasty." You're right. The power of that was amazing.
As opposed to the "Fact of Creationism," you mean? I applaud you on your faith and envy it but I really don't take kindly to being told my soul is in danger because I don't share your faith. Please be more sensitive to all faiths (and non-faiths) in the future, on this board at least. It makes for much better conversations.
700 septillion years and more of roasting in an open flame in exchange for 50 years of being an asshat and not believing in his 'son'. do not want that God.
did I say ignore it? newp. The my god has a bigger peen mantra in this thread is what I'm referring to. huge waste of time. been going on for thousands of years, and will continue for at least another thousand. nothing you or I can do about it.
We agree that that line of debate is worthless. We disagree in that ideas of religious tolerance for all are what's currently at stake and it is useful to point out that when one religion suffers intolerance they all do. I do not agree that it's not worth talking about.
Is there a reason you don't understand how scientific use of the word "theory" is different from colloquial use?
Batman I meant no hard feelings toward you or anyone else. The original poster I responded to said "And that was BEFORE Charles Darwin came around and proved that we share a common ancestry with apes...". Evolution is a theory just as creation is a theory. I believe creation is a "fact" because I have "faith" that the Bible is 100% true. Like you, I admire anyone who has faith, even Muslims, although I believe their faith is misguided. As a Christian, am commanded to spread the Gospel and do so when I see a chance. I am concerned about your soul or anyone else who is not saved. I do not believe caring about the salvation of others is a bad thing. If you have a chance please visit this website and read or listen to the audio or video. Becoming a Christian is a personal choice that is between you and God. I do force my views on anyone. I feel everyone should have a chance to hear the gospel to either accept it or reject. What you take from it is up to you. Peace!!!!!!
FranchiseBlade, The poster I responded to said this "And that was BEFORE Charles Darwin came around and proved that we share a common ancestry with apes...". I was only reminding him that evolution is a theory just like creation. I have faith that the bible is 100% true so I believe creation to be a fact.
To be honest I'm not here to argue for religion b/c its a man made institution that may have been built on good reason but many men have distorted its intended purpose. I can call myself an atheist who found God b/c just like people question religion, I came to question life by the way man views it. I can understand why people dont believe in a higher power but most of that has been caused by people who do believe unfortunately. Nevertheless I dont hate dislike or spit on another man's belief b/c as long as there is a moral respect for one another I believe that exemplifies the fact that there is more working behind the scenes than just what man can explain. To end this, if I'm wrong about God, I'll never know, so what does it hurt to believe. But if I'm right......
the bible is not even close to 100% true. it's full of errors and contradictions. I'm not trying to come across as a dick, but if you believe this, you probably haven't read very much of the bible. A more fulfilled journey in your faith might be the result of reading and examining the bible more closely. or, like me, your milkshake might get drank.
This should read that "I DO NOT FORCE MY VIEWS ON ANYONE" I apologize because I am a poor at typing!!!!
You do realize that the Bible is translated don't you. The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and the New Testament was originally written in Greek. Most of these so called contradictions can be explained with language translations. Check out the following links. link 1 and link 2
Let me give you a point of reference for this. I normally speak English however I also know quite a bit of Spanish. In Spanish, if you want to say "I am cold" you would say "Tengo frio". The English translation of "tengo" is "I have", the English translation of "frio" is "cold", if you put those two together in English you get "I have cold" which would mean you are sick instead on being cold. The so called Bible contradictions are a result of translation errors like this.
yes, I know the bible is translated. I also know that it has irreconcilable differences. And through it's translations over hundreds of years, parts of it were deliberately changed to fit the authors beliefs. It's often why you see 2 completely different versions of the same story. I'm not referring to minute details i.e. one blind man vs. two blind men. I'm referring to humongous discrepancies in the birth narratives, passion narratives, resurrection narratives etc. other interesting notes of Paul: did he go directly to Jerusalem in order to confer with the previous apostles? in Galatians 1:16-20 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, 17nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus. 18Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days. 19I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord's brother. 20I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. but.....Acts 9:20-30 (this is immediately after Paul converted) Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21All those who heard him were astonished and asked, "Isn't he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn't he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?" 22Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ. 23After many days had gone by, the Jews conspired to kill him, 24but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall. 26When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple.[/] 27But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. 28So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29He talked and debated with the Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him. 30When the brothers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus. so who is lying here? Paul or Acts? or is this also just lost in translation? There are easily 5-6 more instances like this where Paul and the Book of Acts completely contradict each other. That is Paul and Acts alone. The Bible is not 100% true. It can't be, it is historically impossible. and if it is, then I don't want to believe in it anyway. not with passages like this: Psalm 137 8 O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us- 9 he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks. I'd rather put my faith in Apollonius of Tyana. I like his 'miracles' better.
creation is not a scientific theory. There is no evidence to support it. The same is not true of evolution which does have evidence to back it. I too am a Christian and have faith in the bible. But I know the point of the bible was never to be a science book, and look to the bible to tell me about spiritual matters.
So do you read the bible in Hebrew or Greek? If you haven't read the bible in the original languages, then how do you know that what you're reading is not a mistranslation?
