Well then, can you explain why white men can't jump, blacks are better athletes and asians are smarter?
Everyone is a racist whether they admit it or not. Everyone makes judgements on race. Read "Blink". Frankly, I think there are differences between races and racial tendencies. We all know it but we sweep it under the rug because we're all afraid to be called racists. But to me, recognizing differences isn't racist. Thinking a black person might prefer fried chicken and collard greens for dinner is a steriotype but a pretty harmless one. I am not even sure picking the black kid over the white kid for a pick-up game of basketball is that bad really. We all make judgements because we have to. If we didn't we'd be paralysed into inactivity. Should a woman be scared of a big black brother walking down the opposite side of the street? well, what's the difference? Is someone a racist for not wanting to date Korean men? Hell no. The race card is so over played in this country.
The goal for white people is to find a colorblind approach, speaking stereotypically. The goal for everybody else is to find an approach that accentuates and therefor celebrates our differences...not melt them into one. As an aside: If you hate being "politically correct," it is probably because you don't know anything about what it is you are talking about (or worse, don't care about it). Aside #2: Ever notice it is only white people that complain about "playing the race card." How come you rarely, if ever, hear minorities use that phrase about other minorities?
krosfyah -- you want the law to be colorblind. equal protection clause and all that. but past that, i hear you. there is a ton of emphasis on making us all exactly alike...but that doesn't seem much fun to me. seems like it's far more interesting to have and to celebrate diversity. and even within that framework, there's still SO much in common.
