Yeah it is always fun to make a "BIG SPLASH"...but we havent...at least not yet. The thing is, why is everyone so upset about us not getting big FA's? We already have 3 very good players. Everyone get off the bandwagon and stop saying the same thing and realize a few things. STEVIE is a GREAT player. He has scored alot and played like a 2 in the past but will anyone argue that he has had too? Stevie has had to score for us. CAT...i will admit is a black whole sometimes meaning he shoots whenever he touches the ball...now with JVG and a little discipline which is what the Rox lacked with Rudy being a players coach, I think CAT will have to accept a new role in a new offense.(Im not knocking Rudy, i love the guy, he won us two championships but those were veteran teams and we had alot of disciplined players unlike the new young ROX) Now YAO...with Shaq on his last leg...YAO will be become the most dominate center in the league at an agile 7'6 and 300+ lb. frame. He has bulked up over the offseason which is what he lacked last year along with a little tenacity. Plus he averaged good numbers last year and they will continue to rise. CATO is in my opinion one of the best backup 5's in the league. TAYLOR was a nice player last year coming off a year in which he never stepped on the court. He will coming in this year with a full season and offseason of work as well. E. GRIFFIN...though young and seemingly lazy at times has the potential that made him a 19 yr old lottery pick. While Im not saying he is J. O'Neal...does anyone remember his first 5 seasons in the league? I do...not pretty! RICE, PIKE, A GRIFFIN...they are all nice role players who will compliment the Rockets well off the bench. PIKE will be the long needed calming factor we have needed that the old championship Rox had in players like Thorpe and Bullard. Cant wait till we work the inside out game with PIKE this year! We do lack a good backup point...Im the first to say Moochie isnt cutting it. NACHBAR...Im not gonna dog the kid yet...he didnt get a chance to play which was not smart in my opinion last year. I think he will be a nice player and we will see alot of him this year. This is my opinion...maybe you disagree. I like the Rox team as is for now.
I don't disagree at all. In fact, I agree with you 100%! We have a good team here. We're not gonna win the championship anytime soon, and most likely we're not gonna make any HUGE changes in this team we have now. So maybe you all should stop WISHING we had different players, and just support the team we have now. A team's fans make a big difference in they way they play, and as fickle as a lot of you people are, it's a wonder the team is as good as they are now!
amen amen amen I hate the situation with the PF position and the backup PG situation. I think this will be a decent team. Remember, 2 of the last 4 years they were above .500 and they missed the playoffs by a combines total of what 3 or 4 games. they are on there way. They are not close but progress is being made. and hey the 6th, 7th or 8th spot is not that bad for a team that need to get a little playoff experiance first and bulding for a championship.
GREAT POINT!! This has always been the downfall of Houston is our fans. We have too many fairweather fans and not enough all time, for better or for worse fans that we need. We are from Houston so I kinda look at it as amrriage betwwen our fans and temas. We have them and good or not...they are ours so we should love them for better of for worse. Oh yeah...in case you havent figured it out...TILL DEATH DO WE PART.
Nice post! Your assessment is pretty much right on the money IMO. This is a good team that is just learning how to become great. It takes time to get there. Anybody remember the Rocks of the early 90's... the team that earned the label "Choke City"? Many people gave up on them but they learned how to pull it together eventually. Enjoy the ride, cheer the progress, and the winning will be that much sweeter when it comes.
DBIGFEETS signature kind of says it all as well...nicely put. Isnt it nice to be positive sometimes. I hate negativity cause it is hate.
hmmm...moochie...not cutting it.......never heard that before! actually, i totally agree...i'm real excited about this team! but there's no doubt we will get a couple more players: with our PF and PG needs, our need to fill a couple more roster spots, and still a few million left from the MLE to spend. probably role players, veterans, inexpensive. Mark Jackson! Get him! please!
While I agree with the evaluations most have of Moochie's play last year, I think that even that will improve when he has JVG pounding on him to run the system this year rather than trying to be SF Lite. Mooch doesn't have nearly the talent that SF has and yet will dribble the ball for so long that you think he IS SF (or Mobley). I disagree completely with the evaluations most have of our 4 spot. I think that EG will have a breakout year under JVG whether he plays at 3 or 4. Taylor showed a lot of signs of becoming the pre-achilles injury player he was in lala land and should be solid as either the starting or backup 4. I don't even think we are in that bad shape at the 3. We have Rice to burn people for sagging on Yao, EG (who will have a heck of a post game this year), and Taylor. In addition, we have a young'un with loads of potential in Boki. With a little seasoning and some real playing time, he should develop nicely. We have the best center rotation in the league, bar none, and if JVG decides to play Cato at 4 sometimes, we will have a scary front line of Yao, Cato, and EG up front for a total of 21 feet, 4 inches of nightmarish blocking ability. We could run a nasty 2-3 zone this year and let SF and Mobley go balls out for the steal knowing that they have help behind them (sound familiar?). We even have a very respectable 2 rotation with Mobley and Pike. Either one of these guys can burn you from the outside and with the Rox running a system, Mobley should also be able to turn up his production. IMO, our biggest need is chemistry and practice running the system JVG will put in place in 6 weeks or so. If we are going to do any trading or changing up, I think it needs to be done at the trade deadline, not now. Let JVG figure out what he has and how far he can shove what he has up other team's a$$es. DON'T PANIC - printed on the cover of the best selling book in the universe. The same book that has as it's entry for Earth "Mostly harmless."
To me it's not even about "supporting the team" even though I always have and always will. It's about being patient. Rome wasn't built in a day. We can't make a huge offseason move every single summer, assuming hiring JVG doesn't qualify. Personally I think it does qualify. We're not 1 player away from a championship. If we were, I'd be just as pissed as everyone else is about this offseason. Truth is we're 2 or 3 years away from serious championship contention. For now, I'll settle for improvement. And I think that's just what we'll get this season.
I think that if the rockets players were all that bad then we would have just changed a few players and kept Rudy as the coach but instead they seem to feel that we have a pretty good core of players and with the right coach for this particular group of players we can go to the next level. I think this year they will learn to work together as a team as opposed to being a bunch of friends out there playing street ball. theres no doubt in my mind that the talent is there they just have to get them moving in the right direction.
I always thought that a big splash was sooo overated. We should do what the SPurs did. A bunch of little splashes. We should get a bunch of solid role players to sorround Steve and Yao, and stop trying to get big FA.
But Rockets managers should panic on this little paragraph: ¡°Õâ¶Îʱ¼ä£¬ÐØÃÆ£¬ÐĻţ¬¾Í¸Ð¾õѪһ¸ö¾¢µØÍùÄÔ´üÉϳ塣¡±ÌýÒ¦Ã÷˵×Ô¼ºÏÖÔÚ»¼ÓиßѪѹ£¬×Åʵ°Ñ¼ÇÕßÏÅÁËÒ»´óÌø£¬²»¹ýËûµ¹ÇáÃèµ_дÆðÀ´£º¡°Ç°Ò»½×¶ÎÔÚÍâÃæÅÜÀ´ÅÜÈ¥µÄ£¬Éú»îºÜ²»¹æÂÉ£¬»ØÀ´¼¸ÌìͻȻ±äµÃÌعæÂÉÁË£¬ÉíÌå·´µ¹Ã»·¨ÊÊÓ¦ÁË¡£ÕâÁ½ÌìÏȹ۲ì×Å£¬Èç¹û²»ÊDz¡ÀíÐԵľͲ»ÓóÔÒ©ÁË¡£¡± " yes, they already sent a doctor over there.

J.Dub... I wouldn't say that I'm panicking, but it's hard not to feel let down after the owner of your favorite team promises to make a FA 'splash' but falls way short of a droplet. If he didn't make empty promises (i.e. playoffs last year, FA signing during this offseason, etc.), I'd be yelling at people to quit panicking too. I think a lot of normally rational people are frustrated right now more than anything. The result is a crap load of trade rumors, most of them incredibly one-sided towards the rox, that are made in a quick fix frame of mind. IMO, there is no quick fix and the rockets need to think long term, but the Les should be skinned with a rusty cheese grater for leading people on like that...
