Sorry to bother our busy tech guys, but I have a question, that I hope should be quick and easy. I recently got a new comp, with and SLI motherboard, and two nividia 7950 3d graphics cards. IT is running Windows vista home premium. I wanted to double check and make sure the SLI function is activated and working properly. When I typed on the computer button from the start menu and clicked on properties, then device manager, it reads that both cards are present. I was just curious how I could be sure the link between them was in effect and working. Is there a way to do that? thanks in advance.
You could do a video test. Or look at the nvidia console, which I assume you should have installed on your pc.
I should have mentioned that. I did look at the nvidia guide and it mentioned clicking on the nvidia icon. I can't find the nvidia icon anywhere and I did a search and didn't turn up any files with nvidia in it. I'm not sure how to do a video test, but should I get the NVIDIA drivers CD or whatever came with the computer and double check to make sure everything from it is installed?
If you have the nvidia control panel installed (with the Nvidia monitor etc.) It should come up when you right click your desktop. You can just check on your FPS etc. It should be working no problem if you have the SLI bridge between the two. Otherwise your PC wouldn't be running correctly having both PCI-E spots taken with out a bridge IIRC. I have 8800GTS's in my pc.
Ok, cool. I guess I don't have the nvidia monitor installed. Twin 8800's must be nice. I was looking at that, but it was the final straw that would have pushed this system over my budget. I will probably eventually upgrade. I have flown in the flight simulator X, and tested out oblivion, and it all works, so I am guessing since there were no problems that it's ok. I am just curious why I don't have the nvidia control panel.
Definetly, especially FSX. That game is a HOG. But I love it. I was going to go with 7950GT's OC'd but saw that for just $100 more I could get am 8800GTS. (per card)
I'm so jealous... stuck with my Dimension 8300 with an AGP GeForce 7800 GS. It's working too well to replace with a clear conscious. That's what my wife tells me.
Find another use for the video card. I gave my 6800GT to my little sis who's in highschool. That and my ram.
I know how that goes. There was a lot of negotiation(about 6 months worth) and fast and firm budget before I was allowed to get what I wanted. The firm budget is what prevented me from getting the 8800's. But what I have is such a huge improvement over my old system.
