If we were to ship Cato, Carlos Rogers, Walt Williams, and Bryce Drew out of Houston would we be able to re-sign both Maurice Taylor and Shandon Anderson to large contracts (or even to the max)? When do we get Bird Rights for each player? What would Maurice be able to earn next season as a minimum contract? What about Shandon? ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Houston Rockets Space Center- Not just another ClutchCity.NET clone. We're that and more!
Come on, cap experts! Help me out here! ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Houston Rockets Space Center- Not just another ClutchCity.NET clone. We're that and more!
Not a cap expert, but I'll take a stab at this. We get LBR on Mo Taylor in a total of three seasons, this one which he is paid 2.25 mil and two more after that. Thus, if the Rockets want to keep him long term, they will likely have to commit cap space to him in 2001 b/c Mo likely wont play for this kind of salary more than one season. In their current state, they cannot give a huge contract to both Mo and Shandon next summer. Its one or the other. If Shandon is willing to play a third season at this lower wage, then the Rockets could commit a lot to him with his LBR after season 3. That means Shandon would play this season at 2.2 mil, and the next at 2.4 mil instead of opting out. After that, the Rockets could commit the max to Shandon by exceeding the cap. I seriously doubt the Rockets will clear away Cato so I wont go into that scenario. If the Rockets unload Walt Williams for a FA to be in 2001, that would allow them to tack on roughly 5.5 mil to Shandon's salary if he chooses to opt out after this season. That would allow him to sign in the neighborhood of 8 mil. Bryce Drew can become a FA in 2001 if the Rockets decline his option. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Thanks for the help. I know we won't be getting rid of Cato unless a very nice deal comes along. But could you answer that just for a hypothetical scenario? In other words, how much will we have to get rid of to sign both to large contracts? By large I mean something near the max for Taylor (assuming he plays good ball next season) and somewhere near 8 million for Shandon. So, you say that if we get rid of Walt we could give Shandon 8 million in addition to giving Taylor a big contract? How big would his contract be, as I have the impression that we won't be able to sign anyone to the max next season unless we get rid of some contracts? ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Lets suppose the cap is 42.7 mil next summer which is being estimated from what I have heard, read etc. The Rockets could commit the max to Mo Taylor as long as they do not pick up the option on Bryce Drew and do not use the 4.5 mil trade exception this summer. If the Rockets do not unload Walt, then they could not give Shandon much of a raise, but if they do, then Shandon could get a contract in the 7-8 mil range. Also, one thing to note, if the salary cap does go up to 42.7 mil, the max salary will go up as well. If the cap does go up to this amount, the max salary for someone of Mo's experience in the league is 25% of that or 10.675 mil. Thus, if the Rockets gave Mo that kind of a contract, there would be table scraps left for Shandon unless they can unload Walt. If they can do that, then Shandon could get a contract in the 7-8 mil range. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
