Guys, I'm planning to buy myself a new laptop, and it does not have to be fancy at all, since I'm just going to use it for surfing the web, download, and watch movies.. etc. So the laptop has to had bulit in wireless, and webcam... but not too expensive.... Which brand and model would you guys recommend? Thanks for the help!
You say you want to download/watch movies. Is it important that you'd be able to watch HD content? Because if so, you'll want a decent graphics card with at least 256MB of dedicated video memory, or you chance any HD content you play skipping like mad. My brother didn't think about that before he bought his, and now it drives him batty. Also, in general, assuming you're getting a PC... what brand you get seems to have less and less meaning as the years go by. As long as it's a major name you can probably get by.
no, I don't think I need to be able to watch HD content. I'm just thinking to get a laptop with 2GB of RAM and 120GB hard drive. I've done some researches online, and most of the reviews stated that HP is the most popular laptop brand. Toshiba and Dell are pieces of junk, because Toshiba is always overheated for some reason (I think something is wrong with their internal fan)...
lol. No - I was just kidding because it seems like we get this question every 2-3 weeks. The manufacturer doesn't matter as much until/if you have to have service done on the laptop. If you're looking at PC's, look at Dell or HP. You can buy from ODM or "secondary" manufacturers, too, but if you stick with those 2, you should be ok. Asking someone which laptop is best is just a crapshoot. You'll get 5 people saying Dell sucks and another 5 saying they're great. Toshiba also puts out good laptops as does Lenovo (although I saw some squirrely stuff they did with a user on this board in an earlier thread that made me question their ethics). Sony usually is not a great bang-for-the-buck buy. You pay for the Sony name (like pretty much anything Sony whether it warrants the price or not). As for your deals, Dell and HP have coupons they put out almost every week for laptops and desktops. You can go to the following places to get an idea of what kind of deals on laptops there are out there : www.gotapex.com www.techbargains.com www.slickdeals.net www.fatwallet.com (their Hot Deals forum) forums.anandtech.com (their Hot Deals forum)
^Great advice I got mine from a deal on fatwallet. It was a decent gaming laptop for around 900 w/ tax. I would recommend checking the core and specs with some googling, like comparing a T5444 vs T6708 when both are running at 2 ghz. There isn't a big overall difference, but I'm not sure what your exact needs are.
is playing hd movies gpu intensive or ram intensive? Would having 4gb of ram counter using onboard graphics?
I've actually been looking to purchase one myself. The Vostro series (Dell) seems to offer some pretty good deals. Prices not too steep, either. http://www.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/vostronb?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd
Keep an eye on newegg.com I've never looked seriously for a computer there but they have good deals on all kinds of things. Careful though, it's very addicting- they'll send you emails with crazy sales that are hard to pass up.
