    With quotes about the Rockets maybe being a championship quality team by Isiah Thomas and others I began to wonder if a team that missed the playoffs the previous year had ever won the championship?? Does anyone know?

    I cant recall but last year the Nets missed the playoffs and then made the NBA finals.

    Nah, before Magic, there was Kareem. No way a team with Kareem still in his prime would not make the playoff.

    The Lakers lost to Seattle in the 1979 conference semifinals. Portland won an NBA title in 1977 after missing the playoffs in 1976. I'm pretty sure that's the last time it happened, but not sure if it's the only time...

    I think the SPURS fall in this category. Upon drafting Tim Duncan, they reversed their losing course in spectacular fashion.
