I know that we owe it to Vanc.....Memphis, but is it top 3 protected or something? Say we end up getting #1 again, do we HAVE to give it up to the Grizz? The only player I would want for this team that isn't already in the L is TJ Ford, but we could get a "King's" ransom for LeBron (you want Brand? you got him!).
Is it not 'protected' at least as far as being within three picks of wherever Rox pick? If that is, in fact, correct, then some good could come from it -- particularly if it were in the top 3 with some team, including Grizz, willing to offer their #4, #5, or # 6 pick (for example if #3) to get Melo (if not LBJ or Darko)?
Yeah, if we do get X pick and Memphis and somebody else wants Y player we could trade the pick for theirs within2 and maybe end up with something?
You might get some slight value out of the pick by trading down, particularly if we won the lottery. But, there are some roadblocks to that. For one, we're going to the playoffs, so our pick will be #14 at best. Two, even if we were in the lottery, chances are very low we'd get anything other than #13. Three, we'd have only 3 teams we're allowed to deal with, so value can't be too high. Four, draft picks have a transfer date that is specified in the trade that is usually a couple of weeks before the draft. So, we'll have to pay up on that pick long before other teams are willing to consider pulling the trigger on a deal -- teams always want to wait for the last second on draft deals.

Man, I wrote that thing and I can't even remember what the conditions are! You're right. Anyway, that makes a trade even less likely than I was predicting because we would have to win the lottery to have a chance at it. Chicago pick will be protected so we shouldn't expect it. I don't think Orlando owes us a pick. Are you thinking of the pick we traded away to get Terence Morris?
Question if the Rockets won the lottery again? Could they trade Griffin, Mobley, Cato, or Taylor for possible the tenth pick and give that to Memphis and take Lebron or Darko with 1st, or 2nd pick. As long as the pick is top 13 do they have say on which pick they get? A new coach and the addition of James or Darko would make us title contenders in two years.
If Toronto had not made the playoffs last year, we would not have been able to pick Bostjan Nachbar with the 15th pick of the 1st round. Then, would the Rocket's have been able to get Toronto's pick this year even though the Raptors are in the lottery? Actually, the Raptors are currently tied for 3rd worst record in the league. Does anybody know whether the pick was lottery protected for 2003?
I think the Raptors pick that we got was lottory protected. So it had to be 14 or higher. So we did really decent getting the pick last year at 15. As for the questions about giving the Grizz which pick we want im not sure. But I would have to go with actual pick we would get this year. Because that wouldnt really be fair to them. And its the chance you take when you make a trade.
