I want to repaint my kitchen. I don't like painting and can't stand the stupid wall paper the previous owners of my house put in the kitchen area. I was told one can't just paint over wall paper and the paper has to be taken down. How do you do that? The wall paper seems impossible to get off or it will take 2 weeks to rip off.

Pour ammonia all over the wallpaper and let it set for 1-2 days. Then it will just peel right off.

Ugh! I remember helping a friend take down wallpaper in his house and there were three layers of the crap. Get ready for some work.

There are sealers available that you can paint over the walpaper then just texture and paint.

We rented a wallpaper remover at homedepot which kind of steamed it off. No chemicals....but very sweaty. Worked pretty well on about 5 layers of WP on a 70 year old house.

Easy part: Get a wallpaper remover thingy, wallpaper removing solution, and a roller.

Hard part: actually using them (correctly) and getting the wallpaper to come off.

I've helped my dad do it several times - it's not hard, but your arms WILL feel like jell-o.
