Does your pastor every ask publicly and clearly (hopefully every Sunday) for prayers for the 650,000 dead Iraqis?
I am not a church goer, but I do not believe that Chruch Goers are asked to pray for anyone outside of their community.
At least the Church Goers' leaders aren't asking them to go out and kill people, a a la the mullahs and imams...
Do you always have to post something of tangential relevance in an attempt to be inflammatory? For the record, most Catholic priests will ask the parish to offer prayers for "all those who have died." Not just people in the community, not just Catholics, not just those killed in a war...but for all who have died.
I just take great offence at Christians being slammed by glynch. I would think you would too, Refman.
The condescension in glynch's post was obnoxious. As if Christians don't know or care about innocent Iraqis dying.
In addition, we offer prayers to end war, suffering, etc, at every Sunday Mass regardless of who is at war and who is suffering.
does it bother anyone that someone like Joel Osteen can generate so much income from preaching the word of god?I don't think Jesus would appreciate that at all
I love how the Pelosi's, and some liberals will throw themselves on the side of religion, as long the religion is twisted and evil... The symbol of the middle-eastern based terrorists is the diabolical twisted and intolerant muslim religion, and for some reason that is wholesome enough for the Pelosi's and quite a few on the left to "respect"... Meanwhile, potshots at Christianity and attacks of such from the left in recent memory is prolific...Sickening.
That's funny, given that the vast majority of liberals are Christians. But whatever. The thing the majority of the left dislikes is the politicization of religion and the distortion of Christianity to win votes. Or things like fanning religious flames as a tool for generating anger and division. It's funny that the religious right basically represents everything that religion often preaches against.
you have the audacity to call islam diabolical, twisted and intolerant, yet get upset when you perceive someone to be taking pot shots at christianity? sickening.
It's multiple response time...look for your quote. Does it bother me? Sure...but firing back isn't the answer. I'm pretty sure the actual answer to the question surprises glynch. So show him he's wrong. Responding by blasting away at him is only going to further ill feelings. As for this quote about Osteen...I couldn't agree more Mr. Clutch. Good point. But then again, church scholars will tell you that to some extent, we are all hypocrites. We are all sinners as we are human and are imperfect. As such, people are going to use religiion to affect their own goals in a positive way. Not saying it is the right thing to do...just explaining.
I read Glynch's post but I fail to see him slamming anyone, it looks like he is asking a question about whether or not the pastors as for prayers for the dead in Iraq. How is that slamming Christianity? When I attended church, our pastors most assuradly asked for prayers for everyone...... DD
Certainly true. And both sides do it in various ways with their own issues. It was just meant as a reason why liberals dislike the religious right (and not the religion itself). Liberals do the same with other issues, and thus cause conservatives to dislike them for that.
I find it interesting that the "Religious Right" chooses to focus on gay marriage and abortion with almost no resources dedicated to helping the poor and less fortunate. They "rally" their base on these issues. They also oppose welfare benefits for the poor and illegal immigrants. No matter what your personal beliefs about people receiving free food and shelter, or poverty stricken immigrants illegally coming here to get jobs to support their families.... I am fairly certain Jesus would have supported them.
I'm pretty sure that Jesus would not have left it to government to forcibly take from the populace to do so. Jesus would have called on people to give alms for the poor to the best of their ability. Nothing in the teachings of Christ advocates government handouts.
glynch, Interesting that you direct a question to church-goers when the majority of church-goers on the board are in church. Consider that when you read the responses. Prayer request for the end of the war and for the families of those who have died have been made in my church. Generally, we are more concerned about suffering in our community, but we do think and pray about issues on the other side of the world.
