What is the name of the relation of my cousin's daughter to me? My dad is his mom's brother, making him my first cousin. We've been calling it an uncle/niece relationship, even thought we know technically it's not. Also, we were thinking she was my 2nd cousin, which makes sense to me but I just found out that is also not true. Anyone know what the name is of our relation?

I'd say Uncle/Niece though it may not be that way, it's what I would call it but my family is different, my cousins are like my brother and sisters so it works out

edit: that doesn't sound right, I should rephrase:

I consider my cousins to be like brothers and sisters.

She's your first cousin once removed. You're also her first cousin once removed. Your future children and she are second cousins.

A general rule on naming cousins: Phrase the relationship as "There exists a couple that are both person 1's grandparents and person 2's grandparents," adding "greats" as necessary. So, you could say "My dad's parents are both my grandparents and her great-grandparents."

Let Gn be the number of "g"s in the word describing person n's relationship to the common ancestor. In your case, G1 = 1 and G2 = 2.

    The level of cousinship = min(G1, G2).
    The level of removedness = |G1 – G2|.

If that doesn't make sense, I'll try and rephrase it when I wake up tomorrow afternoon.

I think she is your patrilineal cross first cousin, once removed, but an anthropology major may want to double check that.

Plenty of resources on the Internet and they all read about the same on this topic.

Here is one of many pages available on the Web.
