the cheapest, and most effective method is to use hydrogen peroxide. just tilt ur head one direction. pour some in ur ear. after about 60 seconds, u will be able to hear and feel, the peroxide dissolving the wax. then do the same for the second. peroxide is like 30 cents a jug.
I think Debrox is almost worthless because it doesn't have enough Hydrogen Peroxide to do much good. But if your doc says use it... Now you understand a plugged ear is nothing to panic about, it's just a major annoyance. If the infection causes any discomfort, the antibiotics take only a day or so to make your ear feel better.
Ok, I realize that I'm bumping an ancient thread but I figured maybe since 2005 there's better information. I clean my ears several times a week, but I constantly feel like there is something in them, I do peroxide periodically, but it doesn't resolve the issue (in my head anyway) I can hear, but I think I'm not hearing as well as I should be. Any news in the world of earwax removal since 2005?
I'm not that informed on this, but isn't it NOT a good idea to poke around in there? AFAIK, just let the earwax build up organically, since the wax protects the inside of the ear.
For as long as I can remember, my ears would periodically plug with wax and I couldn't figure out why. Then one thing alone stopped it completely: I stopped washing the inside of my ear when showering. Blew my mind. Soap from the washrag was turning into wax, now matter how thoroughly I rinsed my ear. Now, no more worthless Debrox. No more trips to the ENT to get my ears waterblasted with solution. Hopefully this can help someone else eliminate the problem. I don't have any advice for earwax removal other than going to an ENT and having them blast your ears completely clean with solution. It will be a long time before they get plugged again. FishBulb913, exactly how do you clean your ears several times each week?
q-tips which I know isn't recommended but I don't know a better way. And then periodically I'll put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in each ear.
I had the ear irrigation done when I was 13 or 14. I just remember a **** load of junk flowing out. Thought it was the coolest **** ever. I kinda want to go to the doctor so they can do it again. What's funny is that I googled and YouTube this topic just last week.
I would highly recommend getting something like this: It's a nose hair trimmer. As you can see, it's a rounded tip and dull edges - not sharp so you can safely stick it in your ear. The secret is the curved tip: you carefully scrape around your ear, push the gunk against the wall of your ear with the curved tip, and drag out all the gunk. I have major earwax issues and this works like a charm. Don't use q-tips, you're just compacting all the wax in your ear.
Over the counter, I recommend Debrox. Use it twice a day for 5-6 days. Use warm water to gently flush the wax out.
dont use qtips, they just jam the wax. Use a cerumen spoon occasionally to clean out wax. and yo's advice sounds like a ****ing disaster waiting to happen
I thought yo was trollin. An ear wax scooper would prob have a similar degree of difficulty. I would recommend neither if your wax hardens from dryness. Generally the more crap you put into your ear (fingers, cotton swab, peroxide), the nastier looking the wax gets when it leaves. It's not supposed to be dark and smelly, but rather white and flaky. So if it gets moist, clings on to your skin or ear drum, then hardens like gum...Bad freaking idea to mess. A3P0's story sounds like his body had a natural balance and cleaning the edges of his inner ear disrupts it. Maybe the soap is harsh or the oil ratio was "just right" but now has to overcompensate. Your body's results vary. I shower with warm water, rub the outside with a little soap and let it drain. Nothing too much or too harsh. Oil is produced for a natural reason. I put on earbuds a lot and don't clean them so I suppose that helps on a hygiene angle. How do you "clean" your ears. If you have insurance, get an inspection from your GP. If they decide to clean it up good, go to a hearing specialist and do an ear test. I did one and got a mold of my ears for earbuds, which was insurable...
I learned my lesson with q-tips from a few years ago. As my doctor made aware to me, you should NEVER use those things to clean out your ears. They end up packing in the earwax even more, when your ears naturally push the earwax out. I ended up getting my ears irrigated cuz I'd managed to **** up my right ear with a q-tip. The procedure was damn painful, but I'm so glad I did it because immediately afterward my hearing was crystal clear and better than I could remember.
No one believes me? Everyone is intimidated because it looks like a pair of scissors (which it is), but as long as you don't shove the damn thing down your canal, you'll be fine. Make sure it's clean, of course. It really works. It's good for giving your canal a scratch too when your fingers are too thick to do it.
This. Clean it from the visible parts of your ear. Don't stick a q-tip or whatever past that visible area or you might damage your ear drum. Also, earwax falls out naturally so you really shouldn't have to clean your ear at all...
