Honestly, Bush's gaffe itself was a total non issue. He did show class in calling the reporter to apologize once he learned of the reason for the sunglasses. The problem I have is that he used the sunglasses to deflect and keep from answering the question. THAT is what should be getting press, this administration's inability to be transparant.

Are you saying that people shouldn't be criticized for going in a public speaking place and calling somebody who didn't do anything to anyone else, Ugly, and making her the butt of a joke? The idea that anyone is saying Helen Thomas should be protected from all criticism is nowhere near the truth. Nobody said any such thing. The fact that you won't defend the woman who is innocent of doing anything to the congressman, is ungentlemanly of you. And it is indecent of the congressman. It is only common decency to defend people from unrpovoked malicious attacks. I wish that wasn't lacking. You are blind if you think that Murtha, Kerry, or Sheehan haven't been attacked all along. To bring them up as people who can't be attacked makes you look silly.
Of course they been attacked and their first defense is that they are somehow out of the reach of critcism because of their circumstance (war hero, widow, et al). Now mc mark wants to grant Helen Thomas the same protection.

Criticize her actions all you want, but when you defend someone calling her ugly and implying she's a 80-something virgin/lesbian, that's a little different. The statement had nothing to do with her actions or her politics. It was much more representative of the hatred of the guy that said it... he's fantasizing about an elderly American reporter that does not support wholeheartedly the Bush position being essentially raped by a terrorist on one level and certainly implying that a terrorist and Thomas deserve each other on another. Yet another example of the cancerous rhetoric that equates disagreement with the Bush Administration as equal to terrorism. It's disgusting, it's twisted, and furthermore, it does nothing but harm your own cause and diminish our country.

It's all groovy with giddyup. Helen Thomas did not "try to embarass" Bush -- she asked him questions and tried to hold him accountable. She did her job. For that, she gets called ugly and giddyup loves it. But it gets better. He has the nerve to chastise other people for being angry about this stuff. You're damn right we're angry.

I take it that the "comments" you refer to are those made about Thomas and not those made in the Bush-Condi Tryst Thread.
