Sorry to hear that, dude. You would think that shelters would be screening for parvo before they adopt out a dog to avoid situations such as this, but i guess not. Again, sorry to hear about your pup, I hope it won't discourage you from adopting another dog.
tmoney, he got the puppy from his cousin. ElPigto, Does your cousin have a litter? You might warn him.
You've probably been doing a good deal of research since you confirmed it with the vet, but here's a snippet from a Parvo FAQ from this site called Working Dogs... really pulling for the little guy though. keep us posted.
Good luck, ElPigito. Hope the little guy pulls through. I lost a dog recently and it was really tough. We got a new one a couple of weeks ago and I already have an attachment to her that would make what you're going through just as hard as if I had her for years. I wish you the best.
Sorry to hear this El Pigito, but it sounds like you caught it early. Really pulling for the little guy, please keep us updated.
When my sister's puppy had parvo she was throwing up anything she took in, it came right back out from one end or the other. It got to the point where she didnt want food...she wouldn't even react to it, regardless of what it was. Could have been steak and she wouldn't even acknowledge it. I know it sounds bad, but the point i'm trying to make is that it's important to get something in their stomach to avoid dehydration. They did take her to the vet to spend one night getting IV fluids, but even before and after that I had to consistently try and get electrolytes in her with a dropper. Didn't get much sleep during those days to make sure she didn't get worse overnight. That being said, my parents reacted late because they didnt take it seriously enough initially. It was a good two days, almost 3, of being sick before they took her to the vet...im hoping your quick action means your puppy won't have as much trouble. The IV fluids helped a ton...that treatment might involve a blood transfusion too, don't remember, but i believe the whole thing is the recommended and best treatment.
heypartner and Jay-Z, That's what I get for not reading through the thread. My apologies for my last post - it has been edited. ElPigto, As someone who has 2 dogs and 2 cats, I am so sorry about your puppy. Please forgive me for my tastelessness. I know if one of my pets had a sickness, I would not find it funny if someone on the board was cracking jokes. I apologize again and hope that your puppy will be okay.
I had a dog, that had parvo when he was very little, and very sick too, my dog spent like a month in the vet, but he made it, and lived a lot after that. I really hope thats the case.
I just called the vet a while ago and was told that my puppy was being playful and trying to get out of his cage. They have yet to feed him, but I feel a little happy that he is showing some signs of life.
My parents' yellow lab puppy had parvo and pulled through it...as it was diagnosed and treated early. I'm hoping for the best for you and your pup.
Way to jump to the worst possible scenario. Puppies get sick, if it's only been a day, it's really not that big of a deal. Dogs usually get parvo from ingesting another dogs feces or in rare cases a mosquito bite. Most likely your pup is constipated or something, if he doesn't return to normal in the next couple of days you should take him in.
