yahyah, we always jump on things like this but they were talking about amare and his injury and this is what mike wilbon claims with the injury of amare there is only one team in the west, the spurs. he says maybe the second best team is denver. there wasnt even a mention of the rockets... it was just amazing where we have yao, tmac, and now swift and we get nothing.

Last year's Rockets were the one of the greatest 1st-round losers in recent memory, but they were a 1st-round loser. They're probably the second best team in the West, but until they show up in November and December, national media won't notice -- and I can't blame them.

As was noted, that'll change this year.

what do you expect? those guys have to cover every team in every sport. thier knowledge of any topic talked about on the air consists of whatever the producer/research team provides the day before the show. if they were never given notes on our offseason moves then they probably dont know about swift, DA, or rafer.

if we had the same team that we did last year (which is to the best of thier knowledge) then i would agree with what was said. the spurs are the only team in the west because they are head-over-heels better than everyone. maybe they did a story on how karl went 35-9, or something like that, and thats why denver was mentioned.

Unless you're name ends in Jordan or Woods, Wilbon won't even remember you exist. Whatever, the guy has made a career out of sucking up to athletes and yelling at Kornheiser. The Nuggets? This just shows how out of touch he is. The Nugs are easily fourth behind SA, us, and Sacto. He's probalby just lighting up Denver 'cause he likes Kmart or some other BS reason. Whatever, we'll win all season long and get no mention on PTI et. al. What do we care?

Do you blame them for putting Denver up as the second best team?

Not trying to be picky because I agree that it is better for the Rockets to earn the right to be placed in the elite but then why place Denver in the elite? What have they ever done?

Denver has a name. Even though he's not nearly as good a player, more people know Andre Miller than Stromile Swift, for instance, as a 3rd "name."

And even though Yao had a ridiculously high PER in the playoffs (something like 31), people still think he's flat-lined. Amazing.

But I'll also submit that the Rockets were the hip pick in the West last year by a lot of fair weather scribes, and they stunk the joint up for the first 33 games. Now, there are a trillion excuses for that, but they still went 16 and 17 and fell off the radar. They build their way up and get a little mainstream exposure by May, and then Game 7 happens. That's how it goes.

Denver has a big name coach and big name players (even if their games fall a little ... a lot ... short). That will last all year, because even though I think they're the 4th/5th-best team in the West (they're better than Sacto, but the Kings always overachieve in the regular season), they'll get the 3rd seed by winning their Division. If injuries go wrong, the Rockets may still have the 3rd-best record in their own Division.

It's just something Rocket fans are going to have to deal with until May.

Not suprising, Kornheiser and Wilbon are both idiots.
They both don't think that Texas is the 2nd best team in college football and they both picked the Cards to beat the 'Stros.

I have to say I would MUCH rather see the media forget all about the Rockets until such time as McGrady is accepting the Finals MVP away after our four game sweep of the Heat. ;)

What player on the Nuggets has a bigger name that T Mac?
    Bigger that Yao?

And while I respect Karl's amazing work so far in Denver, I cannot say without a doubt that he is a bigger "name" coach than Van Gundy.

aren't tracy mcgrady and yao ming pretty much among the biggest of the big name players? not that this has any relevance at all to winning basketball games.

I could care less what anyone has to say on that crappy show. If I wanted to hear b****ing about sports, I'd listen to my wife during the games.

Denver didn't exactly roll through the playoffs themselves.

Denver got destroyed in 5 games, how exactly does that make them more equipped to get pub then the Rockets? And they STILL finished ahead of Denver. I'm sorry, I don't buy that excuse at all. The Rockets have more big names then Denver anyway. As far as a 3rd name, actually I disagree with that. Andre Miller isn't exactly a big name, and he isn't any more known then Swift. I'll go as far as to say more people know Derek Anderson then they do Andre Miller.

Guys dont ya'll remember a few years ago when it was the cool for the media to talk about who's better

    MELLO or Bron?

Mike would always talk about how great Mello will be and how he really likes Mello and in the longrun he will be better, the guy must really like him so it doesnt make me blink when I hear him say this.. Sports media like Mike have their favs too just like we do so no reason to go crazy.. I dont think PTI is bad, I like it better than 99% of the other crap on ESPN and that does include CRAPCENTER! I like how PTI picks a topic talks about it for a min or two and moves on, plus they bank better interviews that SportsCenter can in the last few years.
