This was probably done when each were launched, but now a year into it, who is the clear victor? DS has some pretty fun games and PSP is a multimedia device. Which one do you prefer?

PSP since I could use it as a mirror in PS3 racing games. Oh yeah. :)

There's also RIIIIIIDGE RACER on the PSP!

Seriously, both are awesome. I prefer the PSP since I like the multimedia aspect of it, plus the PS1 downloads later on. DS is nice too though, and I'm curious to see how the Brain Training games do, as well the other "non-games" from Nintendo.

As far as actual numbers go, worldwide, DS has PSP beat. Neck and neck in the US, while the DS has a very wide margin in Japan.

In more specific terms, though? PSP hardware is outstanding. But it is underutilized. The PSP does a lot of things...but none of them particularly well for the price. Game selection is limited, and not very original.

DS hardware is much less advanced. Somewhere around N64 level. And it was really dead for like a six month period after launch. I thought about getting rid of it. Then it just exploded. Great games. Also much less money.

The DS doesn't do as many things as the PSP. But what it is supposed to do - be a portable game machine - it does extremely, extremely well.

I had a chance to buy a PSP twice at a slightly cheaper price; I just couldn't justify doing it, though in one instance I had been borrowing the system for close to a month to test it out. I found that all I did was play Lumines and couldn't find anything else that really interested me. The DS, meanwhile, gets a lot of regular use and continues to pump out great stuff.

Hell, tomorrow the FIRST NEW SUPER MARIO BROS game (side scroller) in nearly 13 years comes out. That alone would have been a major selling point for me.

How long does the DS last and how does it recharge?

I don't know about the new DS Lite, but it is supposed to be even better (battery wise) than the regular DS design.

But the current DS is like 12 hours with the backlight on, 18 without. Has a regular AC adapter.

IIRC, almost as many DS systems were sold in Japan last month than the sales total for every major system sold in the US last month (360, PS2, PSP, DS, GBA, XBX, GC).

Yeah, it's crazy...I didn't know it was even that crazy though. Makes me wonder how they will accept the Wii.

Yo, can you also tell me how the Wifi feature works? I heard about its "friend codes" and how it blows. I hope it isn't that bad. You have to give your friend code away to play people online in a game such as Mario Kart right?

If you are going to purchase a PSP, I would hold off until they release the redesigned version...rumored sometime later this year. I think a strong point the PSP has is the home brew applications that let u play Nes, Snes, Genesis etc etc roms.

Im contemplating purchasing a PSP/DS Lite myself and will probally end up with a DS because I wouldn't utilize a PSP for anything more than a portable gaming machine. Battery life is another concern for me. I want to be able to play the system for an extended period of time when im on long trips.

That will be interesting to see. I want to say that a pre-E3 poll had more people from Japan interested in the Wii than the PS3...and that was before the price announcement. Another recent poll had ~60% (IIRC) of voters voting the Nintendo press conference as the best.

Maybe we can some more animated gifs like this one:

Yeah, as far as setting up private games (or with friends) goes. You have to have each other's id code stored in the game.

With random matches, it's the same as anything else. Click ok and it'll find you a game. The only pain comes in trying to play someone specifically.

When do the final fantasy games come out for DS? I'd buy it for FF2/FF3 and the new mario game without a doubt! Are the Castlevanias like SotN? That game was incredible for PS1.

i'm interested in buying a psp. right now, for just the psp itself, its $200. If there is a new design coming out, I guess I could wait for that. I've played both the DS and the PSP. I've only played one game on the DS, and that was Nintendogs, and that game, is pretty damn fun. I am leaning towards the PSP seeing as I already bought MLB 06 the show, and Xmen II rise of the Apac.

I could just end up buying both.

Yes, the Castlevania games (one is out now, another coming in the fall...although you can play all 3 GBA ones in the DS) are great.

Are you getting one? If so, what color? I wish they had black. :(

I'll probably get the navy blue.
