Hey guys, lately I've been wanting to buy a new system for a few weeks now, and I'm not sure which system I want to buy. I'm not into much of the blue-ray disk, however, it does sound like a nice thing to have. Yet, the only game I know I'll definitely play is Madden lol. I know both of these systems have their advantages and disadvantages, but I would like to hear your opinion on which system do you think will be the "better buy" for me. Any advice?
What type of games do you like? Last year, EA games were a lot better on the xbox but they say that won't be the case again. The very general rule is that the xbox will get you good 1st person shooters, the PS will get you good RPGs. Sony had more exclusive companies to them last gen, I think it's still like that. Sony says they are going to have music and movie downloads soon but who knows. Really need more info from you.
Iam really into sports games, RPGs, and RTS. Not much of a first person shooter though. Btw, I don't have an HDTV, so assuming that the quality of the gameplay won't be as good right?
umm... what good PS3-exclusive RPGs are there now? I can't think of any whatsoever. I have a PS3 and RPGs are one of my favorite genres, so please let me know which ones there are
What do you mean quality of gameplay? It just won't look as nice, but the games play the same (other than you won't have widescreen)
Well first of all you should get an HDTV before you consider either of these consoles. Not having an HDTV these days is a very sad, sad thing. But to answer your question. I had a 360...I sold it to get a PS3. Bluray was the primary reason I made the switch. If all you are concerned with is gaming then I'd say it's a toss up, but the PS3 will have a much longer life IMO just because of bluray.
When I first got PS3, I was playing on a standard TV. Part of the screen was getting cut off no matter what I set display to (I couldn't read scores on NBA 2k8 for example). It got so annoying to the point that I finally broke down and bought an HDTV.
Yeah, there are games out there that really don't seem to take SD TV into account. I can think of one - Dead Rising for the 360 - where the text was practically unreadable on a standard. Really, look into getting an HDTV first.
Hm, it looks like before I can decide on buying either of these systems, I'm going to have to do some homework on buying an HDTV then.
Yeah, I was about to point that out. 360/PS3 is almost reversed from last-gen in that aspect...well, the 360 still has a lot of great FPS game, but the PS3 has some great FPS games too unlike the PS2 for the most part. The PS3 does have the FF13 games coming, but who knows when those will be out. Maybe down the line, it will turn out like the PS1/PS2, but it certainly hasn't gotten off to a great start. I don't know what I'd do if I hadn't recently got into some of the PS2 SMT games. Back to the original topic, both machines would probably offer you about the same. Sports games (including Madden) will probably be about the same on both, although the PS3 will offer you the best baseball game on the market. If you like western RPGs (Fable, Mass Effect, etc.), 360 probably has a slight lead. If you like jRPGs (games like Final Fantasy), 360 probably has a slight advantage right now, but as mentioned, PS3 will get the Final Fantasy games exclusive to its system and might end up with more in the long run. RTS games haven't really been that big on consoles. Ensemble Studios (known for the Age of Empires games on the PC) is working on a Halo RTS game for the 360, although I don't know of many other notable games off the top of my head (if I check out RTS games, it is usually for the PC). There's a Ubisoft RTS as well, but it is for both systems IIRC. The two systems offer a lot of the same stuff right now I think. Probably about 80% of the games released are on both systems, and most of those probably perform about the same on both (maybe some slight differences here and there). The other 20% or so are exclusive, but each system specializes in certain areas and provide excellent games, so it is hard to go wrong with either. Unless you have a strong preference for Blu-ray, free online, certain features of XBL, or a specific game (or games) that is exclusive to one console (EX: Final Fantasy, Gears of War, Halo, Fable, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, etc.), you can probably just flip a coin to make your decision. Maybe a few other things I left out, but you get the idea...which is why you made this thread I guess. E3 is a few weeks away. There will probably be some announcements made at the event that could impact you decision, so you might want to wait a bit before making a final decision. At the very least, the 360 will have a $50 price cut by that point and possibly a new SKU, so you could end up saving some cash...which should go to the purchase of a HDTV.
dude, first thing you need to is to get a HDTV. basically, if you were a PC person, you wouldn't buy an expensive video card for your EGA monitor (if you are too young, google EGA monitor and check out that resolution). Yeah, you wouldn't do that. so don't kid yourself and buy a next gen system without getting the TV first. That's buying fish, and not having water in the bowl. your game system will be flapping like fish deprived of water.
I have around two-thousand dollars free to spend. I don't want to spend anymore than $1000 on an Hdtv (I'm a cheap college student.) But I will spend a more than $1000 dollars if I have to. btw, I don't live in Houston. LOL
Not this ***** again..... The way these things work is simple. Someone has a choice to buy one of the consoles. They fork out the money for it, then spend time talking it up and trashing the other console because heaven forbid they paid all that money for the wrong one! They end up arguing with people who bought the supposed "Competition console" about which it better. Meanwhile 80% of the games can be bought on all systems and if you swapped the graphics on the games none of these fanboys would even notice! As for what I own? I own a system that plays GTA4, Fight Night Three and a racing game.......and I couldnt give a stuff who made the thing.
If you like RPGs, I'd say the 360 has the edge for now. Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, and Tales of Vesperia are on the horizon. The already released Lost Odyssey is a very solid Final Fantasy clone (from the creator of FF no less). The PS3 will be getting the FF13 games, The Last Remnant, and White Knight Chronicles (from the developer of Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud, Dragon Quest 8).
360 is more popular right now, but I went with PS3. Blu-Ray was huge and I don't have hardware issues. Both have great games, but most come out for both. PS3 does have a better processor and although it was slow to come around, Sony hasn't had problems yet securing great titles. As for exclusives, that's what sealed the deal for me. I'm missing out on Halo, but there other shooters out there, especially COD4. In the end I want to play FFXIII when they finally drop. Most of all though, whenever God of War III comes out it will be exclusive to PS3 and that to me can't be matched. LONG LIVE KRATOS!!!
