I actually haven't tried to play those files types I was just under the impression that the PS3 would not play them. I use my PS3 for gaming about 90% of the time. The other 10% is music playing through media server and DVD/Blu-ray usage. How do you get files on to your PS3? How do you get to these files to play them? How do you delete files when you're ready to do so? How do you stream files? How can you tell how much space is left on your PS3 hard drive? Is there anyway to expand this? Like I said, I haven't really exposed my PS3 to anything other than gaming.
Can the PS3 play the MKV straight now? I always have to convert to mpg before I can stream it via TVersity.
No antenna available unfortunately, but I believe it does have a digital tuner judging by one of the options it gives me in the input menu. Do you have any information on how I could set my laptop to project on the TV screen? No offense taken. The moment I saw his TV was a Polaroid brand, I wondered why he went with a crappy brand (I think he didn't know any better). But like I said, I'm just borrowing it from him for the summer. He moved out of his apartment and needed to store it somewhere, so he's letting me use it. When I purchase one eventually, I'll be getting a higher quality brand, but right now I'm just worried if this is a problem with my actual PS3 or HDMI cord.
wakkoman, matroska (mkv) is just the illegal preferred method, not "common." Careful with the words. Lil Pun, when you share media through any Media Server on another machine, as long as you can see the file on your PS3, hit the green triangle and you can select "copy". If you can play it, you can copy it, except for DVDs and such protected things... just like a regular file from a disc to a disc. Put any media on a USB flash drive and copy it onto the PS3, also. You can add photos to slideshows, etc. I think I use the PS3 more for media sharing and playing than for games. From the company's site: http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/2_60/settings/connectdlna.html Wired DLNA example ^ About SYSTEM CAPACITY, STORAGE, DISK SPACE, etc: http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/2_60/settings/systeminfo.html (select "system information" from under Settings in the XMB).
Don't know what model it is but most HDTVs have a VGA in or DVI in. sometimes niether and you'd have to do DVI to HDMI.
I'll test this at lunch. I have only added music to the media server and never tried any other file types. I'll post my results. Thanks. Anybody have answers for my other questions?
Damn, I just picked up another HDMI cable from the store to test things out, and there is still the same problem even with the new cable.
Damn it people. Keep it simple. Its the HDMI port on the back of the TV that is going bad, or is a crappy one to begin with.
