pun listen to me buddy. are you going for weight loss or fat loss? carbs are not evil as society has made them out to be. we have gone through all these diets including low-fat, low-carb, low-sugar...yet we still miss the big one: Low Calorie! so if you want to lose numbers of the scale then don't worry about protein, cut all ur carbs out, dont drink any water and voila 50lbs in a month. if you want to properly lose fat slowly without looking like a malnourished homeless person, then eat a balanced meal.
Well, as I have stated I am going for fat loss. I am trying to eat balanced as I have stated I have not cut out carbs at all. The one thing I am still not quite sure of is the complex carbs and the good vs. bad carbs. What are some examples. I've heard sweet potatoes and oats but what else? What are some bad ones to stay away from? Same goes with protein and fats? What's good, what's bad? Sorry for all the questions.
People have been terming different carbohydrates simple and complex. "Simple", being the carbs that hit the system faster than "Complex", which enters the system more slowly. The introduction of the Glycemic Index has proven to be beneficial in knowing the rates at which certain carbohydrates are released into the blood stream. The Glycemic index is a measure of how quickly a particular carbohydrate is formed into glucose and enters the body. The Glycemic Index has shown certain carbs known to be "Complex" actually absorb quicker than some carbs known to be "Simple". Low Glycemic Carbohydrates Here is a preferred list of some of the foods that are "Low Glycemic", and are recommended for sustained energy levels (slower absorption, lowered insulin response): Nuts Legumes Fructose (Basic sugar found in fruits) Pasta (Boiled 5 min.) Dairy ( Ice cream, skim milk, whole milk, yogurt) Fruits (ONLY-plums, peaches, apples, oranges, pears, grapes, grapefruit)(contains fructose) Rice (polished), or brown Sweet potato Oats All-bran Most Vegetables ( exceptions- carrots, corn, root vegetables) High Glycemic Carbohydrates Here is a list of some of the foods that are "High Glycemic"(quickly absorbed, high insulin response): Sugars (from high to low: Maltose, Glucose, Sucrose) Honey Puffed cereals (white rice, wheat, corn, rice cakes)YES! RICE CAKES Potatoes ( regular russet, instant, mashed) Candy Breads (especially white bread) Instant products ( instant: rice, oatmeal, wheat, grits) Carrots, corn, peas Flaked cereals (corn flakes, etc.) Corn chips all taken from this article. i really recommend you read this article. you will learn so much about carbs. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/zaino14.htm
Here is a great list that shows you good carbs, proteins, and fats that you should include in your diet: http://www.bodyforlife.com/nutrition/foodlist.asp
They do make low fat ones too. Problems is, those still may be high on the calories. I've been looking for something to curb my sweet tooth just have a hard time finding anything that is good for that while being low in calories and fat. I cannot believe the cookies I used to eat were 80 calories a pop and most of the donuts were 200+ each!
Try Rice Krispie Treats. When I was weaning myself off of sugar, I would eat those. Its relatively lower in sugar and fat and calories. After a while, I stopped craving sugar. Now I don't think I eat anything with refined sugar in it the whole day. It feels kind of weird eating anything sugary these days. The other thing you can try is very dark chocolate. Those things have antioxidants and low sugar content as well.
What about lean beef? I know the pork, poultry, and fish I eat is very lean but what are some good cuts of beef that are full of protein, lean, and taste good as well? Like I was looking at a 12 oz. ribeye and most have 600+ calories and half or more than half of those calories come from fat.
ribeye is a nothing but fat. tasty though. top siloin is pretty lean. Just trim off any fat and also find one without too much marbling. 6oz ribeeye probably has like 40g of fat vs. 10 for sirloin.
I bought a 4 pack of EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control Chocolate Fudge. It was surprisingly not bad, different but not bad. I think I will go to Sam's and pick up that 6lb bag later this week.
