Cato has been INCREDIBLE of late. Even though he's gotten very little playing time, he's made the most of it. This entire season he's been a rebounding monster, and SOLID on D. This guy deserves some recognition. Today, against the Pacers... 9 rebounds in 10 minutes of play, six of which were offensive rebounds. Amazing. He's playing his heart out, the PERFECT backup to Ming. Actually I wouldn't mind seeing his minutes increase a little, for his sake. Keep it up Cato!

    Agreed.
As critical as many of us, including me.....especially me, have been of Cato, he's the perfect back-up.
I don't think he should be getting 30 minutes per game, but at least 20 would be nice......gotta give Ming a chance to rest sometimes.

having someone good to practice against will definetly improve your game. i think it's also a case of cato being use to defending a giant who can move to the basket (for a rbd or points). so when he's up against a "smaller player", and i use that term very, very loosely, he kinda has an advantage. like how shaq's backups are (theoreticly) meant to (except all the LAL-ers are playing crap now).

Cato has been playing very well this season. awesome effort tonight :)

i wonder if he thought he might be the first rocket player traded if he doesn't become a good backup centre...

Kelvins play this year, gives the Rockets an edge at the center position for entire games...hes a valuable asset. Not expendable. Even with his inflated contract, there are few big men with his skills that arent paid well. Hes adapted well to the backup role...he would start for many teams.

I don't think Mark Madsen could improve even if a Russell-Chamberlian clone practiced against him everyday.

Cato has been awesome but I am afraid that he may start getting more ambitious after this year. What if he starts rocking the boat and asking for a trade. I'm hoping Cato remains a backup to Yao and kicks ass for us for years to come. But, the guy is only 28 and he may feel like spreading his wings in the coming years. I know, I know, I sound like polypheus but the guy does make a ton of money for a backup and a veteran big man looking to play for a contender is not that hard to find. This is just a situation that could occur in the future. And you know Cato will have to sign for less when his contract is up and we have to resign Yao, Griff, and Mobley.

Cato has been a monster on the boards which is his main job coming off the bench. The perfect backup at center.

Also, how about that bouch pass Cato did. It looks like Ming's passing is rubbing off on the whole team.

Cato needs some PT at PF. If EG & MoT are stinking it up why not stick him in there depending on the matchup. He certainly brings more energy (can you believe Cato bringing "more" energy?).

I agree. Cato is a better rebounder than Mo T. We should consider playing Cato next to Ming for 5-10 minutes during the game. He won't take bad shots, he'll block shots, and play physical. That's what we really need.

Ya, they all bring the same amount of offense at this point. I mean they are all like the 5th option at best on the floor. Its the defense where Cato has the edge. Until EG and MoT can pick up their offense, why not play Cato at PF.

Cato was a monster last night. I think we should get him a few more minutes. The guy has been hustling and playing hard. Still waiting to see Ming and Cato on the floor at the same time.

Cato did a great job last night, when Yao Ming was getting pushed around and hacked all over the place last nite, Cato seemed to be able to come in as a replacement and really be an enforcer on the boards. His physical play and hustle really impressed me, and when and if Yao will be tired and can only play limited minutes, Cato will be a good backup. Also look like he learned a few things from Yao about passing.

At first I was against using Cato as a pf, but if matchup allows, why not? I think it'd be a worthy experiment. Cato gives good D and great great rebounding. I think it'd be nice putting him at pf for a little while. Yao would certainly appreciate the help, and it'd give more pt to Cato. I say try it Rudy!!! :D

Cato appears to be trying out for PF. His rebounding last night was unbelievable. He was snatching balls out of the air like he was swatting flies. I would love to see him with Ming just as an experiment, but what about his shot?
