What do you guys think about this new device from MS? I think its pretty cool but creepy at the same time especially in Milo. http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6210718/ http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6210712/ http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/projectnatal/
If that Milo demo with that girl was real, then that's creepy. The water effect thing was cool. They should redo Myst with Natal if they want to blow some minds.
I hate being the pessimist and will probably come around some time or another if it catches on...but it looks dumb to me. Why not just go to a real pond with a real person? Why stand around in the living room pointing at a TV?
I can say it'll be better than what the Wii and the PS3 have to offer. I still doubt the XBOX will beat the Wii with sales and same goes for PS3 beating XBOX for sales. These "accessories" won't really attract too many more people to buy a gaming console. As for Natal though, it's neat what you can do with it, certain things like control the dash board with your finger tips, voice recognition, all that kind of stuff... pretty much awesome.
Because it's about technology and the progression, think of all the ways this kind of technology can further us in other areas <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/w2G49_qHrKg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w2G49_qHrKg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> ^^See this could very been be the foundation to that dude in the beginning clip from 12 seconds to 42 seconds. ... Who could have thought we would have self check-out in grocery stores 10 years ago? Technology and progression thats why this is cool
i think it really depends on how much work it takes to program one of these personalities, and hook up all the extra input data and keywords/phrases into the language analyzing engine. cause you could make a very immersive game with this tech, but if it takes a ****load of work i doubt developers are going to bite.
Yeah imagine you forget to turn off your 360 one night and wake up in the middle of the night with milo watching you sleep you: oh sh** i forgot to turn off my 360 Milo: I enjoy watching you sleep
I haven't read much about it, but I think one of the complaints from people who were allowed to "interact" with Milo is that you have to use the "right" words. I think I read that he only understand 500 words (or something like that...which is still impressive when you think about it), so if you say something he doesn't understand, he won't really know how to respond. That will likely get better with time, but still seems like a lot of work.
I'm just imagining this technology for games like Fallout 3 or Oblivion. Can you just see the immersion you would have playing those like that? I mean, the interaction you would have with people and the environment would be unreal.
$149 for Natal rumored. Also an October 26th day rumored for release.... Personally, I think $149 is too much for just Natal. I guess if they packaged a game with it, it may be a little more enticing. http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/26/project-natal-to-cost-149-by-itself-299-with-360-arcade-acco/
I think it looks stupid. The things I could see it being helpful for are the non-gaming aspects. For example, getting rid of TV remotes. Flipping through movies. Video chat. But from a gaming perspective, I think it's a step much. Granted, I don't game a lot anymore, and kids may have the energy to keep up with it, but older kids and adults...not so much. Also, those videos were, imo, very poorly put together. Why is there a random old English guy stopping to basically just reiterate verbally what just happened, I just watched it, I don't need a play by play...
I think it is cool, buggy and requires too much hadware to ever be mainstream. A very good friend of mine is in charge of it, we worked together before. The problem for me is that when I last saw it in October it took 4 microphones placed around the room and 2 cameras in front to work correctly. That is a lot of hardware for the average person to install and calibrate.....though it was cool....and I will install it...lol. DD
