I had a Trendnet router for the past 3 years. Worked fine and got the job done. The problem Ive had recently is it will drop my internet connection 10-20 times each night. I knew it was the router because I could plug internet directly to computer and it never dropped.

So I went out last week and purchased a Linksys e1200 router ( http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-E1200-Linksys-Wireless-N-Router/dp/B004T9RR6I )

It fixed my problem with dropping my internet connection, but now I have a problem with internet speeds. I use my router only to send wireless signal to my Xbox 360 and recently I've played very simple games over Xbox Live and my connection has been REALLY slow and laggy. I never had this problem with the Trendnet, when it wasn't dropping the connection I was getting good speeds. My internet speed test registers a solid 19mb/s download and 5.0 upload speeds.

Only thing I can think of is my Trendnet was a G router and my Xbox Live adapter is G as well. New Linksys router is a N but it specifies it works with G technology devices.

Is there anything I can do to get a better wireless connection to my Xbox 360?

PS: The 360 is only 20 feet away from the router on the same floor but in a different room.

Wireless N can step down to G no problem.

Try a cycle boot. Turn off the router. Turn off the modem. Boot modem up only till all lights are active (connected to internet) then turn on router.

You could try changing the channel that your wireless radio broadcasts on. Make sure it's not near a microwave or a cordless phone. Not sure if that will help with speed but definitely with performance.

Honestly, I've gotten rid of wireless for my gaming needs and use a Powerline network adapter just for gaming and wifi for everything else. They can be a bit pricy but offer great performance and no need to run ethernet through your place

Make sure your wireless is secure. Nothing like someone torrenting on your connection to slow it down.

You can set your Linksys to broadcast in Wireless G only mode, this might help. I remember with Xbox there were tons of Port forwarding and DNS settings I had to do back when I played on Live. Maybe look into that.

You can always put dd-wrt onto your linksys, ever since I did that, havent had a single problem (That was 2 years ago)

Are you sure it's the router and not your internet connection? I would grab a wire and go directly to the internet modem to test it out first.

I recently bought one of the best Linksys Gigabit routers they make along with a Linksys wireless bridge for my HT. This allowed me to remove the cable I was running from my HT equipment switch to my router. I had the WRT54G wireless G router before the new one and it worked fine but I always ran it wired from my HT (xbox, ps3, dvr, etc.) because the wireless performance sucked and would always experience connection lost issues when running from xbox 360. So, now I have all these devices wired to the wireless bridge and the wireless router is about four feet away.

I thought it would be pretty fast under the new set up and, while it is acceptable and better than my old set up, it is still not that great as far as performance. Obviously, if I ran the bridge wired, then it would be ideal.

If that is what they call Wireless N performance, then I have to say I am still disappointed. I'm thinking maybe I made a mistake in that I should have bought the solution that uses the electrical wiring.

I have a netgear n600 Gigabit router. Love it. No issues with dropped signals. Have my PS3 and Google TV Logitech Revue always connected to I wirelessly......and my tablet.

Desktop and three network drives connected wired.

You won't regret it if you go with a powerline network adapter.

    consider flashing your firmware.

DD-WRT is the most rock-solid firmware for several routers out there. i used to have an issue with constant rebooting on my old linksys... flashed to DD-WRT and had ridiculous spans of uptime (1-2 months before i had to reboot).

I have a stupid question; I have a Linksys EA3500 that I set up with that CD it comes with. My question is: Can I block a website without everyone knowing I block the site? Currently if I block a site a Linksys page comes up saying this page has been block please enter password to continue.
