That happened to me when I was in 5th grade and my hand got to big for an 8 sized ball. My fingers got stuck and I threw myself into the lane. The ball actually landed on my pinkie and it put so much pressure that the end of my pinkie split and I had a deep gash at the end. I still have a bad scar because I never got stitches. I wish that somebody was video taping it back then because I would think that it was hilarious now.

His thumb had probably swollen up pretty good. When you bowl that many games your fingers and thumb will swell up sometimes. You have to use a ton of ez slide when that happens. BTW I bowled for about 13 years and I bowled at UT in college tournaments. Good times.

    I keep ez-slide in business. ;)

Have to use it on my thumb and on my sliding sole, you dont want to see someone my size stick at the line when he throws at the velocity I do. (6'2"/250 and 17-ish mph)

anyone that thinks this was done on purpose has never had it happen to them, serious bowlers avoid it like the plague cause it hurts like hell.

It's true, the ball must be released for it to be considered a legal delivery.

I remember one time when I was working I saw this one dude who was built like an offensive line man try to throw a house ball that was waaaay too small for him. The thing got stuck on his thumb and flew off all the way down the lane and hit the lights that show which ball you are on. I don't remember if it bounced off the lane first. Either way it was nuts lol.

    "Oh my goodness GRACIOUS!!!!" :D

I love how the announcers feel like they have to describe exactly what happened.

"The ball never clears his thumb...hits the lane..hits that oil in the heads..."

And the crowd doesn't react at all. As if they see this kind of thing all the time.

For the guy doing the dive, it was actually intentional. He does it when he is set to win a tournament, it even has a name but I cannot remember what it is called.

You realize that if your thumb is stuck to the ball, releasing your other fingers and letting a bowling ball hang solely from your thumb is extremely dangerous, right? Once he realized it was stuck, he rightly grabbed onto the ball to stabilize it the best he could, mainly so he didn't fall harder or break/sprain his wrist. Also, busting your ass on a bowling lane could also easily injure you, that wood is extremely slick and very dense. This is his livelihood we're talking about, why would he risk that? What face does he "save" by doing something this bad on purpose?

Athletes will sometimes feign injury *after* doing something really bad, such as his grimacing after falling, to avoid embarrassment and try to illicit sympathy. But to suggest he did this on purpose is just stupid.
