Some liberals support killing babies, but oppose the death penalty. Who knows what human beings wants? Not to mention the "deep recesses" of many prisoners ASSES.
insane man is right though, however, I don't know to what extent it will be able to be stopped. There doesn't seem to be any real practical way to do this.... However, it is listed as a corporal work of mercy in the Catholic Church to visit the imprisoned...here's a link on some things that are being done..http://www.uscatholic.org/1998/CWM/kelly.htm I think a large part of the problem is that people just don't know how to visit prisons, or how to go about making any affective changes in other peoples lives without someone screaming that morals are being forced down the throat of others... Seems to be a tough issue, how can people who feel it is their calling from God to help and reform people in a spiritual as well as practical way even begin to do something without "forcing your morals on others" coming off another's lips...so it's a bit of a tough question...but a good one none the less. I don't think anyone here outside of a few would be in favor of prison rape though.
I agree. If one of the tenets of Christianity is to power to be forgiven by the eyes of God, then isn't there the possibility of executing spiritually innocent lives? The State is permitted punishment for the crimes the felon commits in his life, but State sanctioned murder seems to be a power above normal people. Just as some would believe the State condoned murder happening in some clinics.
I thought Prison Rape is the #1 reason not to goto Prison Sitting around all day or what ever they do may seem to be . . not so bad but the idea of getting raped. . .well that is down right TERRIFYING Rocket River
Okay, I'll give up the Death Penalty if the others guys/gals will give up abortion on demand as a woman's right to control her own body. Deal?
I think supporting the death penalty is an odd position for Christians to take considering we worship a guy who suffered the death penalty despite being innocent. I don't imagine he was the last.
Not sure what the discussion is about, but the gay population are now segregated from the hetero's to prevent many rapes. I'm not sure what to think about that. But safety comes before human rights I guess. on a side note: You might think rape or capitol punishment would be a deterrent to criminals. But that's not true. Take murder for example. You really only have a few types of murderer. A. Revenge - To someone seeking revenge, an eye for an eye is a reasonable result. Capitol Punishment is no deterrent. They are willing to face that result as their hatred for another grows. B. Seeking Fame - Capitol Punishment is a perfect ending. They are seeking public fame and believe they will get it. C. Someone got in their way - It's not likely that someone wanting something so desperately to murder, would take the time, during the event, to think of capitol punishment before removing the person in their way. D. A mind incapable or insane - Their is no decision process. So Capitol Punishment becomes irrelevant. So capitol punishment, in many ways, actually improves the odds of crime. A fame seeker sees the public fame attained from all public executions. They crave it.
Lol. I'm sure that will do alot of control the problem. Prison rape, like rapes anywhere else, probably have little to do with sex and alot to do with power.
What a silly thread this is. What you're saying is that what's going on in our prisons in terrible; somebody else should do something about it. The Church is great for mobilizing for stuff like this, but it is made up of citizens just like you. You can start an effort to improve conditions in prisons just as easily as any Christian or clergyman. So, why do they have to do it? You do it. I would say you're right that Christians should be upset about this sort of stuff, and for the most part it probably doesn't come up often in their conversations. But, though they may be more discreet about it then they are on abortion (due to the differing natures of the 2 problems), there are likely many Christian prison-visit ministries that do address the problem in whatever ways they can. I wouldn't assume they are sitting on their hands. What all they can do, I don't know. What would we expect them to do? Make it illegal? Btw, I just did a Google search on "prison rape christian ministry" (with the safe search on). It has some interesting stuff.
