Jalen Green's trade value will continue to go down as next season starts. We should really take advantage of what he did the second half of last season and get as much as we can now, otherwise we'll be stuck with him or give him up for nothing.

I'd be willing to offer him to the Lakers for Austin Reaves and a future FRP (though I would settle for two seconds). I don't think the Lakers would do it because they are holding out for a bigger splash than Jalen Green and will need those picks, but Reaves would be an immediate upgrade.

I guess we will chose to be stuck with a 6'6" guard who is in the same breath as significantly shorter guards like Fox, Ja, Maxey for quickest players with the ball in their hands who is 22 years old. How unfortunate.

Sincere question. Do you think the front office and Ime see Green in the way you do it I do?

Organizations always caution when they see promise, hoping the player will eventually snap out of it and become the player they drafted him to be. Unfortunately, once a player shows you who they are... you should believe them.

Even if he changed for a year or two, his mentality is what makes him who he is...and that always come back. Long term... not worth the contract he'll command.

How do you know what his mentality is. Are you at practice? Do you know the conversations between him and Ime? Maybe his mental development from a bbiq was slower than some. You are just among those who have written this kid off, even though he has only 1 year of adequate coaching. Regardless of where he was drafted, he is still just 22 years old.

How do you know it snowed last night in the Alps. Did you physically go check it out? Are you watching Alps TV 24/7?
It's called my take on it. I just don't see it from him long term and not worth a max contract. But feel free to revive this when he wins a ring scoring 25+ ppg consistently.

I honestly don't get it. To me Jalen reached expectations as a number 2 pick drafted at age 19 with barely anything beyond high school level experience (15 g league games isn't experience during the covid bubble).

If you told me after 3 years of Jalen he broke a franchise record for youngest player to reach 4000 pts and the second place person did it 2 years older(significant gap) but the team is mostly losing i'd be like "as expected".

I don't know why someone writes off a player at 22 who hasn't started winning yet but still is on all time lists league wide for pt production before turning 22. Like maybe his talent will transfer to winning at the rope old age of 23-24?

Is that a failure of a number 2 pick really? Seems like quite in line with a 19 year old number 2 pick drafted to a **** team.

Guys like LeBron and Luka that immediately impact winning on shitty teams at age 19 are the exception.

Do you know Wemby has the exact same adjusted true shooting (97 ts+) as rookie Green while Green is a guard and Wemby is a 7'5" freak where guards usually are less efficient than bigs? And Wemby's production led to 22 wins. So even that dude isn't impacting winning yet and he's considered literally the best prospect of all time and also considered to have one of the greatest rookie seasons ever.

So Green seems like your typical number 2 draft pick. Better than guys like Bagley, but not at the level of Ja at least yet.

So you can say maybe he's slightly disappointing but no where close to the point where he deserves the pessimism that so many here have for him where they just write him off.

Who's your favorite most promising young player on this team?

Are you going to call that player a bust if they don't win a ring as one of the primary options on a team that won a ring?

You are mistaking me stating about his trade value with him being a decent player in the league. The point with Green is getting value for him now (when its most likely at its highest). The organization seemed to shop him at the trading deadline last season and if they wait until the trading deadline this year to do it, I believe his price will go down. If the Rockets are looking to unload him eventually, before the payday, then this summer may be best.

Don't get me wrong, Green would be a great #2 option for this team if he can fit into that role mentally and know when to attack. But a stud #1 commanding a max is not what I think this organization sees him as anymore.

I feel like the time to have gotten Austin Reeves was last offseason when the Lakers were sweating their cap and we could have been predatory with our cap room and signed him to contract that the lakers couldn’t match while an RFA. We could have gotten him without giving up assets. We chose to chase Dillon and Brook Lopez (and consequently Jeff Green and Jock). I think that was a missed opportunity.

but yes, Reeves and a 1st for Jalen would be great.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. It is just a pet-peeve of mine when posters pretend to know what a person’s mental attitude is by watching. By all accounts from those that work directly with Jalen is that he is a hard worker and serious about playing basketball. Of course, anything said by the American media should be taken with a grain of salt. Green may be the laziest, dumbest basketball player that ever lived, but I personally would never presume that by watching him play basketball. I will presume that Ime knows about Green’s attitude and work ethic and he continues to start him and believe in him by putting him on the court.

I believe the Lakers would take that deal in a second. Both Reeves and Jalen are young players and potential still plays a big part in perception of worth. Jalen’s potential is offensive superstar, Reeves ceiling is valuable role player. No way the Rockets would make that trade going into this season. He is the only player on our team that can break down defenses off the dribble. Any replacement for Jalen needs to have that ability to the same level or better.

I can understand that. It's hard to find mentality in overall stats as they are easy to manipulate. However, consistency does speak volumes. When he goes on a scoring streak, it feels like it's clicking, but when it falls off you're left wondering what happened. I'm not so sure it's a learning curve with him as much as an emotional, fitting in, thing.

Harden seems like the best player who ever played basketball at times, but he never could play up to that in the bigger moments consistently. Hidden in the overall stats is the truth of how a player most likely will be for their career, and it's not always noticeable but it's something you may find you just can't put your finger on it. Jalen Green screams to me as one of those players.

Now, if Green had Whitmore's confidence then I'd be all for locking up Jalen long term. But not when the missing piece is something that others can't add. It's up to Green to do that for himself and be a true leader. Until then, I just don't see it.

To be fair, he could be his own type of player (not comparable to anyone else), win a ring and become the darling of the league. Nobody thought Jordan would be the player he'd be until he won a ring and everyone took notice. It could happen that way. But I'm not sold on that story.

    For the last 10 games of 23/24, JG had 39.0 FG% 28.2 3PT% 50.4 TS%

I'm wondering what happened as well

Most Valuable Trade Asset (that I would entertain trading): Jalen Green. I've still got hope that the JG run we saw last year will be a normal state for him as he continues to mature (himself and his game). I know some want to sell high before he disappears again and value drops, but I think we have to determine if he can be a star, we've seen enough glimpses to know it's certainly possible. Because of this variable in his play, it's really tough to determine whether you can win a trade given the swing in his contributions. If the Nets would take him straight up for Bridges, should we do it? I'd say "No" because Bridges is a smaller upgrade at SF compared to the hole it would create at SG. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision to trade him or not, really seems like its a "damned if I do or damned if I don't" situation.

Guys we could consider trading for salary matching: Tate and Landale.

If we could get an upgrade: Brooks.

We don't really need to trade anyone. Having Tate and Landale at the end of the bench in case of injuries is a nice luxury at this point.

Add #3 and #44 to roster, sign a few FAs (MLE available?) and ride into 2024-25 off our solid finish.

That’s fair. I’m not super big fan of Jalen, because of that inconsistency. I am reluctant to trade him until we see if he can turn it around with a good coach. Because of his contract situation, I want him to prove it this year. If he starts out like usual then it’s time to give someone else a shot. I don’t think there is a very solid argument to unload him at this point. Even if he doesn’t show out this year, I’d try him out as a 6th man and let him go to rfa.

True, you'd also have to take into consideration whether a change of scenery is what he needs to go to that next level. Meaning, if he went to another team and became their leader scoring 30 ppg with consistent playoff experience- that wouldn't mean anything if he instead stayed with the Rockets, was maxed out and couldn't find his way.

I bet there are many players in the league that could be THAT GUY or THE MISSING PIECE on another team but never get that opportunity. Coaches, teammates, city, all could factor into how well he does going forward.
