Okay I did a search and didn't see it come up so sorry if it was posted. I usually don't post in this forum but do a lot of reading but had to post this after seeing it. I'm not affiliated with either party, rather a person that likes to choose based on the people in the election so I'm not here to stir any problems. This is just pathetic no matter which party did it. Of course this was done by an individual. A controversial billboard in Orange County has a picture of the burning World Trade Center and the message, "Please Don't Vote for a Democrat." The man who paid for the ad says he's trying to help Republicans The ad went up last week and is causing quite a reaction. "Why use the twin towers for that purpose?" Anderson questioned. STRANGE PHOTOS VIEW 99 PICS capturing a variety of strange news. The man behind the billboard is Mike Meehan, a St. Cloud businessman and musician. His website advertises a CD and music video titled "The Republican Song," with the chorus, "Don't vote for a Democrat." He's selling CDs for $5. "This is a blatant exploitation of that terrible tragedy for political and, perhaps even worse, personal gain," said Bill Robinson, Orange County Democratic Party Chair. Orange County Democrats are calling for the billboard to come down and the local Republican Party has said the ad is "inappropriate." Meehan hadn't returned Channel 9 calls or e-mails Monday afternoon, but some are defending his right to free speech. "They can have their opinion. It's a free country, if they want to pay for the ad. I'm sure it's expensive," resident Louis Champeau told Eyewitness News. The company that owns the billboard, Beech Outdoor Advertising, views it as a fundamental first amendment issue and for that reason wouldn't censor the ad. The billboard will be up until after the November election. Beech Outdoor Advertising declined to say how much the billboard costs to rent. http://www.wftv.com/news/16879991/detail.html
Republicans have prevented another 9/11 from happening, and are stronger on terror than the liberals. Obama wants to sit and have tea and suck up to Iran's nut job president, for crying out loud
regardless if you think that way, i don't think this banner is appropriate. As i said in my post it's not about the parties involved it's more the concept of the banner to begin with.
It's really inappropriate. I would think that the Republicans in his area should have some recourse, though. He's trying to sell singles for $5 a piece, but using their name to do it. They should be able to force him to take it down, or at least remove references to Republicans from it.
I think Democrats should put up two billboards down the road from that one. The first one with a picture of shrub looking all cocky, with these words: "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." - G.W. Bush, 9/13/01 And then another one down the road with shrub looking like his usual clueless self, with these words: "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." - G.W. Bush, 3/13/02 "I am truly not that concerned about him." - G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts, 3/13/02
Correct me if I am wrong, but if memory serves, Bigtexx has himself enjoyed the gratuitious use of really rough 9/11 images on a basketball website.Wasn't it him who posted really graphic photos of people jumping out of the WTC to commemorate 9/11, or for some political thing... my memory of it is only vague.
Homer: Well, there's not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol is sure doing its job. Lisa: That's specious reasoning, Dad. Homer: Thank you, sweetie. Lisa: Dad, what if I were to tell you that this rock keeps away tigers. Homer: Uh-huh, and how does it work? Lisa: It doesn't work. It's just a stupid rock. Homer: I see. Lisa: But you don't see any tigers around, do you? Homer: Lisa, I'd like to buy your rock.
AWESOME! my other favorite from that episode: let the bears pay the bear tax! I pay the Homer tax! Dad thats Home Owners Tax. as for the billboard imo its just classless to try to use a national tragedy for personal/political gain. besides a democrat wasnt in the oval office when it occured.
in that same reasoning you can say the republicans allowed 9/11 in the first place. both are stupid things to say. go to oz get a brain
1st Amendment rights protect this ad. I agree that it should remain. I also agree that Orange County dems should put up ads saying what plcmts17 said. It would only be fair.
Why do people keep saying this ****? Just because our 1st amendment rights allow us to say what we want, that doesn't mean it's RIGHT to say anything we want.
Yawn, this is what, the 100th time that this quote is offered up as a defense against praising the Bush Administration for keeping up safe from terrorist activity? You can best your morning latte that if an attack had occurred on domestic soil, then the libs would be all over it, blaming the Bush Administration for failure. Heck, they did it with Katrina. So it's disengenuous to even attempt to make the argument you are making.
