With the Bush administration about to end I thought I would start a thread about how people in the future would view President Bush's legacy and also any lasting images / events from his presidency.

I'll remember Bush's "bullhorn' speech from Ground Zero after 9/11, the 2003 Invasion of Iraq, the War on Terror/War in Afghanistan, the government's response to Katrina, the troubling economy to name a few.

For off-color I remember Bush choking on the pretzel while watching a football game and more recently the shoe-throwing incident. Probably missing others here.

So how will you view Bush's legacy? Any memorable events / actions?

sadly the pretzel missed. I wonder if it was interrogated afterwards.

i'll remember him for "nelson mandela is dead....." 2 weeks later mandela is on the "watch list".

also, his manny ramirez jokes were funny. I'll give him that.

I'll remember it as a time of one of the countrys greatest times of unity ... and then the matter of his presidenticy, turn it into hostility and division. A president who could have made his mark, but instead to surround it with complete self-serving idiots, from start to finish.

The one thing I will remember most is how we had 99% of the world behind us after 9/11, and then Dubya pissed it all away by attacking and occupying Iraq.

The only president ever to successfully evade two shoes thrown at him during a press conference.

I think the legacy that will be remembered will have to do with his failure concerning Hurricane Katrina which was a direct result of Bush's move put FEMA under homeland security, and cronyism.

Also the legacy of Iraq, which again will tie in with Cronyism, and incompetence.

He will be known for his tax cuts which along with the war in Iraq and out of control spending lead to huge deficits.

Bush will also be remembered as the administration that approved the use of torture such as waterboarding and forever tarnished image and respect of the U.S. in the eyes of the world.

I think one of the other legacies that will be very important in long run will be Bush's ultimate disregard for science.

On the positives for the Bush legacy will be dedication to the Mars program.

I voted for him, but he lost me entirely.

He deserves great credit for this, however:

    http://video1.washingtontimes.com/fishwrap/2008/02/bob_geldof_in_rwanda.html

Mr. Geldof praised Mr. Bush for his work in delivering billions to fight disease and poverty in Africa, and blasted the U.S. press for ignoring the achievement.

Mr. Bush, said Mr. Geldof, "has done more than any other president so far."

"This is the triumph of American policy really," he said. "It was probably unexpected of the man. It was expected of the nation, but not of the man, but both rose to the occasion."
