You'd bet wrong. On the board for several years, over 6,000 posts...and I can't recall ever reporting anybody. I would recommend keeping it suitable for publishing. Just because I don't report something doesn't mean that the admins won't see it on their own.

JV, I still don't get your point. You speak as if it is a factory or something. I've had experience with Planned Parenthood since the 1960's. Back then, it was a place where women could get birth control for a very reasonable price, and reproductive health checkups. It enabled young women, who were going to have sex, regardless, to get birth control that prevented unwanted pregnancies. Several of my girlfriends went there for birth control, and sometimes I went with them. It was very above board, very professional, and a needed service for women. It was not a place designed to make money off these women, or to influence them one way or another regarding their sexual proclivities. It was a place where poor minorities, for example, could get birth control without a lot of questions, and without paying much, if anything. It was a place were college students could do the same thing, without a lot of embarrassing questions. These were all women, of very different ages and backgrounds, who were going to have sex. Planned Parenthood enabled them to have an education about "safe sex," on how to prevent getting diseases, what to look for if they suspected sexually transmitted diseases, how to get treatment, and most importantly, how to prevent getting them in the first place, and to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Abortions, if needed, were only a small part of what Planned Parenthood did.

I agree with you. I've used their services when I was poor in college.

I think in this conversation it's the part we're talking about, though.

I don't have any personal experience with PP. I do know people who have gone there and not been given the full story, though. Who were not given alternatives to abortion. And who really struggle with that today. I realize that's antecdotal, because it's exactly 2 people. But I have to admit that it does color my perception.

    sorry, newsflash. :D

different planned parenthood locations have different staff, so experiences may differ. :D

I bet the basic theory is wonderful and is pretty balanced at many places, and then... I bet there are some that are a little slanted by the staff perceptions, burnout, ideals, what have you.

And armyman, "cut that mess out" is one of the best replies I've seen to one of our friend Refman's Ward Cleaver fireside lectures. I do like Refman, but I also do picture Ward Cleaver logging onto Beaver's computer and furrowing his brow.

This thread has turned into a "Fatty-like" thread. You have armyman amazed that Da Dakota knows his "real name" and then him (army) getting into it with Refman. Throw in B-Bob's last post and ima's response to Asian Sensation (who in the hell besides Fatty :p would post on the BBS immediately after having intercourse?) and this thread has gone from good to great. :D

I don't quite understand this, not given alternatives to abortion? I'm not trying to be a smartass but aren't adoption and keeping the baby the only two other options? How does someone not know this?

I've heard a lot of people say, "I have friends who have gotten abortions and it haunted them for the rest of their lives!!" I don't doubt that this is true, but I have friends who've had abortions who are comfortable and happy with their decision. While it certainly isn't a pleasant experience by any means, it needn't be a life-ruining experience.

You realize how basic most of the information PP gives is right? I would assume most people know a lot of things about reproduction that apparently they don't.

Not merely those options...they will not show ultrasounds. One of the persons I know was actually discouraged from seeing an ultrasound. Told not to because it would be "misleading."

B-Bob is absolutely right though. People are different in each place. Depends on who you run in to. But these experiences, however antecdotal, can't help but color my perception of PP in some way.

Honestly I don't, I've never been to a PP (or similar clinic). It is pretty scary how little people can know about their own body.

I can definitely understand that. Like I said I have no experience with PP so I don't have too much of a dog in this fight, I just wasn't sure what you meant by not being told options.

a dna test can be done after the 8-16 weeks of prenancy.

find out how far along she is. find out if she intends to keep the child. get a dna test.

if the child is yours, you gotta man up and do the right thing.

if not, she has to make a very tough decision.

    good luck.
