Well, gang. We are 30 days away from the first preseason game and as such, it is time for my yearly pre-season prayers. Dear God (or Allah, or Buddha, or Mother Earth, or whatever deity you hold dear), We give thanks for the offseason improvements in the roster, the seeming emergence of a major competitive fire in Yao, and the great hope that we have been given for this season. Please... ...let Yao and TMac complement each other. ...help our superstars to make their teammates better. ...allow Boki to continue his development. ...help JVG to see and exploit the new offensive opportunities. ...give Yao the fire to become THE MAN on this team. ...help JJ, Boki, Sura, Lue, and Ward to hit the wide open threes they are sure to have. ...let JHow live up to his potential. We ask these things humbly, knowing that you will do what is best for us and your plan.
andy -- i was an acolyte in the episcopal church as a kid. the minister in our church would offer the common prayer...and then would leave silence for people to insert their own prayers...he would whisper his own. i heard him pray for the oilers on more than one occassion. always made me smile.
I always prayed for the Oilers... ...then Bud Adams did his thing. Now, we have the Texans and Bud Adams can go to he!! for all I care. GO TEXANS, ASTROS, AND ROCKETS!!!
The church we went to as a kid would begin to get decidedly restless if the sermon went too long. If folks weren't out of late service by 11:20 for a noon kick, they were PISSED.
As fun as that is, it really makes you wonder why some people go to church. Has the church become more of a social gathering than a place to learn about religion?
I would like to add the following. Lord Please... Keep our players healthy Let them not get discouraged Give Yao more stamina Thank You, John
Come on, dude, that is why I was praying for it. Everyone knows you pray for as much as possible and then just be happy with what is given. Same as Christmas, I guess.
Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be the name Yao's time has come Franchise era's done And wow, you delivered McGrady You give us this day Tickets cost so much bread But we forgive those who shoot 16% from the field Yet lead us not into the lottery And deliver us from dribbling out the shot clock For thine Toyota Center is our kingdom And the power dancers And Van Gundy cussing down staff members For ever and ever amen
I have qualms about athletes thanking God for them winning championships or MVPs, likewise, I can't bring it upon myself to ask God to help out my team, despite my affection for them. No disrespect to any of you, hope the team does well this season, no doubt that they will, and hope that Falsone is right again on his theory on weight levels and less injuries.
OK, but as the saying goes, "the lord helps those who help themselves." I'm sure I don't need to complete the thought...
