let me get the point across first that just because my name has to do with chuck hayes does not mean that all i care about it chucky....

anyways, i cant help but notice a lot of you guys, when yall put up a depth chart yall have chuck buried behind hill and patterson at the 4. do yall really think patterson is going to get more minutes than chuck?

chuck is the 3rd most experienced big man we have behind yao and miller. chuck has started multiple playoff games while hill hasnt even started a regular season game. i think chuck will get around 15-20 minutes a game. hill will get about 8 minutes and jeffries and patterson may have a combined 1-5 minutes.

i think our depth chart is going to be like this

    brooks/lowry/lee?
    martin/lee/taylor/brooks
    battier/budinger/jeffries/lee
    scola/hayes/hill/jeffries/patterson
    yao/miller/hayes/hill/jeffries

I don't think it's a slight to chuck who has been an excellent rocket that just seems to give max effort at all times and is a very nice piece as a big man cooler.

I think most people on here just want to see our young guys develop and that takes some pt.

Chuck is great but you'd probably agree that his potential has pretty much been reached. If Hill and PP develop consistently they will be better overall than chuck pretty soon and it will be better for this team that they get big minutes.

I think its more likely Chuck will see minutes when his defence/hustle/smarts is required however this will only be against certain match-ups where as Hill and Patterson will both get spot up minutes (late 1st-early 2nd/late 3rd-early 4th quarters).

    Hayes = situational player
    Patterson/Hill = spot minutes/garbage time.

Clarify: Posters are hopeful that the youngsters develop and overtake Chuck and if he is pulling down big minutes at the end of the season we're probably in some trouble.

Therefore Chuckwagon gets pushed way down the list in a fantasy roster

I think Hayes will be the backup PF at the beginning of the season. He and Miller frontcourt, their combination of offense and defense, should work well for the second unit. They both are very good passers which should make it fun.

It'll take time for Patterson to adjust to the league, but ultimately he'll overtake Hayes for the backup power forward spot. Depending on how much Patterson impresses, it could even happen this season.

Chuck will have the backup power forward spot until someone outplays him.

We saw it with Landry. Until coach feels like Hill or Patterson or even Jeffries is better suited on the court than Chuck in those minutes they are likely his.

That doesn't mean by mid-season one of them won't have taken that position from him, it just means that Adelman goes with the players on the court that he believes will give us the best chance to win.

And to the OP... I am living proof it's possible to be a rational observer and still be a chuckie fan ;)

The Rockets are $1.54M away from getting under the luxury tax. Hayes could be shipped out before the season begins.

Dick Justice of Houston Chronicle on Hayes.

And it's not the first time I've read how hard Hayes has been working out this summer.
