I was thinking about who would be a great PG for us and I was thinking along the lines of a Chauncey Billups type of PG. One that can hit the open shot and drive it to the lane and create shots for others. Although I must say that Charlie Ward and Tyronn Lue have been looking good the last 2 games. The PG I came up with that may be possible for us to snag is........................Ronald "Flip" Murray. Now before you laugh, last year when Ray Allen was injured, Flip Murray was the Sonics leading scorer and carried the team until Allen returned then his points went down but he still played consistently. He could possibly be had for a Juwan Howard or something along those lines. The only problem I know of with him is he's injured right now and I'm not totally sure why. I like the idea because his stock may be low right now but he has proved he can score and run a team effectively.

BUT, this may be rendered unnecessary when Sura returns and plays like we think he will.

    1) he's a shooting guard in a point guard's body (i.e. a mobley type player)

    2) we need a spotup 3 pt shooting point guard, and he's not a spotup type player

    3) He needs shots to be effective and we don't need anyone taking shots away from Mcgrady and Yao

oh please do let us know your secret to get one of those to houston this year. the PG situation is fine. stop listening to announcers and make up your own minds...this will work, and will improve once sura is back to backup 3 positions

The same Jay Williams that would be lucky to put on an NBA jersey again?

I like these two options also.

You may not agree with his opinion but oh please stop acting like an a** because of it. And why is it so hard to believe either could be traded and/or could be dealt to the Rockets? The Rockets were after Daniels during the offseason and, if Seattle has another bad year, they could be looking to move some players. Jaric is on the last year of his contract with a high-drafted PG behind him in Livingston. And we all know how Sterling feels about spending money. Both are possibilities.

how ironic would it be if jay williams and yao played on the same team. I wonder if Dickie V would like Yao then...

Marcus Banks + Michael Stewart for

Charlie Ward + Juwan Howard (Trade accepted)

Houston does it to get perimeterD/transition PG of Marcus banks and loses Howard's contract.

Boston does it because Payton is there and they lack any interior players.

Sorry, I'm just tired of people getting upset after seeing one thing they don't like and immediately thinking we have to go get someone else to rememdy the situation. Bring in Daniels or Jaric and there will probably be some other problems..then what? Maybe with them, maybe with the depth we trade away..

People are constantly criticizing this team for trading away its draft picks--I haven't *really* minded most of the deals, but I'm ready like anyone else to have a 1st rounder. So that option is out.

If you want to trade Howard and Ward for one of those guys...you're left with no depth at PF at Spoon playing 25 mins. (If it were Padgett, I might be for this. But JVG wouldn't play him over Spoon for that long) As much as I'm enjoying MoTay's season so far, I don't think he's a 35-40 min per game by any means.

Add that to the fact that there's no way the Clippers or Sonics, both in or close to rebuilding, want Howard or Ward or Weatherspoon or Taylor's contract. They'd take a pick, I'm sure. Maybe Nachbar, but are you ready to get rid of Nachbar given what he's shown this year and our lack of useful depth at the 3 spot? If he pans out, we still have his Bird rights.

I just don't see a way that Daniels or Jaric (whom everyone was clamoring for all summer...but we were never able to make happen) is suddenly possible now.

On the later comments...Ridnour's offensive game would fit, but I don't think he could handle anything defensively.

Banks, I thought looked decent last year. I haven't seen much of him this year yet, but I heard that he hasn't really improved and people in Boston are disappointed. Sounds like something to stay away from--or at least investigate more first.

    A healthy Sura would help.

But help from somewhere else? If an East team has a little to trade for a Big (JH) then maybe a deal happens. Otherwise, stuff (doesn't) happen(s).

I think we are stuck with Ward and Lue for this year, especially if Ward keeps shooting the clutch 3's. We do not need a slasher/scorer at the 1. We need a spot up shooter, who can defend strongly, and plays smart. Ward and Lue will do for now, but they are weak on the defensive end. I would look to upgrade the 4 before we upgrade the 1.

Yea, I feel the same way. It does seem as if nothing is ever good enough on this board sometimes, but we all want the same thing which is championships. This team has it's flaws and those will show up big time in alot of games because the other team will exploit these. But, Ward & Lue are not the worst PGs we could have. They both are experienced and have their positives that compliment our big two somewhat. I would like for the Rockets to pursue a better overall fit and to solidify that position but I just can't see a good fit that would be available for what the Rockets would be offering. You're right, trading anyone outside of one of our PFs will hurt our depth. It could very well be that the TE+pick will be able to pry a good PG away from a team at the trade deadline. Maybe Dallas looks for more low-post scoring off then bench and we can swing a Howard/Sura for Terry/Podklozine (spelling?) deal when Sura is healthy again. Who knows, but it is fun to imagine the possibilities.

that is true, but people have a good reason for complaining. nothing less than a championship is good enough. sure our goals for this year are noth to win a championship, not yet at least. maybe this year the goal is to get out of the first round. but even if we do that people will still have a laundry list of things that need to be improved. i am very pleased thus far with our PG's, but also think that an upgrade would do us good.

about my comment regarding the two most likely PG options:

for 2 summers JVG has tried to get AD in a rocket uni, i believe he has a player option this summer, and might use it so he can sign with a winning team. jaric is a FA and also would be a great fit.

niether of these will break our bank. both a tall PG's 6'4 and 6'7, they can play D and shoot, and have nice ast/to ratio's.

lue is a FA as well at the end of the year. if we can't sign a new starting PG, i believe we will resign him as our back-up again. i would love to have either AD or jaric, but we have to wait till next summer to see.

PG? Who needs a PG? We've got Tracy McGrady. We really just need The Next Steve Kerr. Someone who can stick the 3 and not turn the ball over too much.

This post makes the most sense out of all of the others. Well said.
