I heard on Baseball tonight that this deal might go down...

    Melvin Mora, Buddy Groom, ML

    for

    Hidalgo, ML

If this went down I would applaud it. I have said all along we should trade Hidalgo/Ward (preferably Hidalgo) for a pretty good Lefty Middle Relief guy. If this deal went down we would ALSO get a good hitting SS/OF to go along with the lefty bullpen help. We also dump Hidalgos overpriced contract. I say go for it if it is on the table for the Stros.

Hidalgo and Berkman are the only guys who are stepping up on this team. We should trade Ward while we can still get good value for him. He's hitting for a better avg than I expected, but he isn't hitting HR's, getting RBI's, or scoring.

I'd do that trade if yoou replace Hidalgo with Biggio or Bagwell. Doggy has played well lately.

    Mora is a journeyman

Peter Gammons must be smoking dope again or passing it to his coworkers. No way do you give up a player with Hidalgo's talent for buddy groom, melvin mora and one of the Orioles pitiful minor leaguers.

Now I shall flow on this topic:

    Melvin Mora, Buddy Groom?
Man you must be smokin shroom,
wack *ss trade, you just made,
better think about it again, cuz if you made this trade neither of us would win
hidalgo for these losers, do u think we also shroom users?
no way, we do this trade, i'd be amazed if we do this trade,
better spray with raid, cuz this trade stings like honey bees,
honey please, don't do this to me,
our astros cannot grow if we do this, so don't do this trade or i will be p*ssed.

I think that pretty much sums it up. In order to make sense, you either have to read it fast, or think eminem was rapping. I can't comeover and give it to you in its original format, sorry.:D

We already have him -- his name is Borbon. If they'd stop throwing him out there to pitch an entire inning, he'd be perfect in his role.

No way its for a reliever. We already have a full supply, along with Linebrink on the DL (scheduled to be back next week) and TJ Mathews and Doug Brocail hopefully returning in July. Assuming Linebrink replaces Mann, this is a pretty reasonable bullpen:

Wagner, Dotel, Stone, Borbon (lefty-specialist), Cruz (long-relief), Linebrink.

I think Jason Lane can come in and replace Hidalgo...and he will be making what? 6 million less? Our bullpen has been horrible. We have allowed the most runs in the 7-8-9 innings in the league..and I think Groom could help us out there. Mora is a decent player to put at short and hits for more power than Lugo. So basically we upgrade SS, and our bullpen, dump salary and dont lose much.

    Why not?

I think Jason Lane can come in and replace Hidalgo...

We also thought Ensberg and Everett and Ward could replace Castilla, Lugo, and Alou. Hank Blalock, Carlos Pena, Sean Burroughs ... the list of rookies who have been expected to just come in and replace good players and miserably failed is very large.

We have allowed the most runs in the 7-8-9 innings in the league..and I think Groom could help us out there.

Groom would be a random middle reliever for us. Ultimately, in any close game, Stone/Dotel/Wagner are the 7-9 guys no matter who else we bring in (barring a stud like Nen or Percival etc).

Mora is a decent player to put at short and hits for more power than Lugo. So basically we upgrade SS,

For a team with serious hitting problems, is replacing a .280 hitter (Lugo) with a .240 hitter (Mora) really an upgrade? Mora, while he's hit 8 HR's this year, has no history of hitting for power. And Mora has been an outfielder for the past 2 years, more often than not (I don't reallly know why)

Of all the problems on this team, Shortstop is one of the last I'd try to fix.

You didn't hear that this deal might go down because they never said that. Gammons basically pulled this out of thin air and proposed it as a way for the Astros to shake up their team.

    Melvin Mora, Buddy Groom, ML

Who the hell are these guys??

The only trade the Astros are going to make is with the Tigers because of Tal Smith's brother/son......whatever.

IF we do trade it will be something like this:

    Brad Ausmus and Brian Hunter

    for

    Jose Lima and Chris Truby

Basically recycle former Astros with former Tigers over and over and over again......

Alas, Randy Smith got the ol' heave-ho earlier this year, so it looks like the Detroit pipeline has closed.

Melvin Mora, to put it bluntly, sucks; and Groom is a hard-throwing 35-ish reliever who can't have more than 2-3 good years left. This is a horrible proposal.

Gammons (much like our friend Peter Vescey) basically flings a bunch of stuff against the proverbial wall hoping something will stick...never take anything he says too seriously.

As I said earlier, Gammons once again is talking out of his ass.

    SFrancis,

Buddy Groom is mediocre, Mora blows and the orioles farm system sucks. If you think a good player like Doggy is worth that, the Brewers need a new general manager and have fun.

I'm all for playing jason lane but Ward is the one not producing. Also, Daryle's bad defense won't help his cause unlike Richard.

Until Ward shows his power stroke, he should be the odd man out.

Also, PS: Lugo is better than Mora.

This deal would be nothing more than one of McLane's salary dumps if it were to go down.

Is this the same Hidalgo we are talking about that is hitting .190 in the last week?

I think I would trade Hidalgo for Mora, Groom and basically Lane.

Yes, and the same Hidalgo that batted .560 w/ 4 HR's the previous week...

I think I would trade Hidalgo for Mora, Groom and basically Lane.

We already have Lane. You'd be trading Hidalgo for Mora and Groom.

He is saying basically Lane because he would take the spot when Hidalgo left.
