I think that if we resign Posey, he will be one of the Rockets that improves the most. Posey seems like the perfet type of player JVG likes. I could see Posey becoming one of the best defenses stoppers in the league. Thoughts?

i agree...he is probably a better man on man defender than jvg ever had in ny and the knicks had some great defensive players...

No doubt Posey will make huge strides, as he'll no longer be relegated to camping out behind the 3-pt line. JVG knows how to utilize the 3 spot, in ways Rudy T couldn't even comprehend. Look for JP to play a similar role as Richard Jefferson in NJ. Posey is a strong defender, and a good finisher.

Hawkins will be fighting for a spot this fall with Kendrick Perkins (2nd round pick) and Jason Collier.

I bet we don't re-sign Posey if there is a luxury tax next year.

I bet we do, because Rice, Taylor, Moochie, and Cato might not be here. Leaves more cap room to resign him.

Only if we find some sucker team that is under the cap that is willing to take any of these contracts off our hands without sending back matching salary in return.

both posey and hawkins are what JVG likes, defense and hustle. i expect to see those two to improve this coming season! we might see hawkins more in the guard rotation. i dont know why rudy puts mooch over hawk in the guard rotation.

Hawkins will be here. I think he is just as effective on defense as Posey. Far as offense, Posey can't hit a layup and Hawkins can't make a jump shot.

Posey and Van Gundy are a good match. IMHO, Posey will be re-signed for 5 years at around $32m. I'm curious to see VG's impact on how some of the other Rox D-up.

Posey will definitely improve light-years under Van Gundy. As someone mentioned he won't be relegated to camping out at 3 pt range he'll actually have a role. He is a great defender when used right in the mold of Mario Elie. That's why Elie would be a perfect coach for this team, he could work with Posey, they're the same type of player. He may not be a better shooter then Elie but Posey is a better slasher. Elie could help him carve out a role. Posey is a slasher to and Van Gundy loves guys who cuts to the basket, he'll probably draw out play for Yao to hit guys like Posey going to the basket. As for Hawkins, he is another Elie-type player who has a good outside shot when he settles down, Hawkins could be our Elie off the bench and you have to keep a guy like that . We need to get Nachbar into the system because we're going to need more shooters.

As long as JVG does not shorten, dare I say it HP, the rotation, everything will be fine.

barbourdg: Both Posey and Hawkins play good defense. But Hawkins and Posey both cannot shoot. Posey did improve his shooting....and I hope he is working on it right now...but he can make layups! He's a great finisher! I remember one time he blew an easy layup after a nice pass from Yao...but he's a good dunker....with no brain. Hawkins has some nice ballhandling moves and is pretty fancy but he can't shoot...good 12th man.

    I hope both come back.

But NOT FOR $32 million for 5 years! That's way too much....I don't think he should get that much.

    Hawkins should get the minimum.

And yes......if Elie became an assistant coach...he could be like a perfect model for Posey. That would be nice.

I believe that Posey is a HUGE piece of the puzzle that we need to keep around. We traded KT for this cat and he has shown the ability to defend like nobody's business, slash to the bucket on fast breasks as well as in the half court, and make open jumpers. It would be a BIG mistake to let him go.

Posey can't shoot, he can play some defense and run fastbreak, overall, he is too soft.

Don't invest too much on him.

The mid-level salary exception will be to sign Posey or moreover of sign Posey we'll have the exception ($4.5 million)

posey will be resigned for around 3 yrs at an average of 5 million. i think he will be the backup 2 guard as well, with tmo or nachbar getting the left over minutes at the 3. I think hawkins may not make the team. This draft has some quality in the 2nd round and i think a 1-2 could be found at houston's spot in the 2nd round. Tito is gone for sure. Moochie cant be removed without taking something bad in return so it will be best to at least have someone the gets along with the team sitting on the bench. So they need ballhandlers. The 2nd is going for that position. In addition, I would like them to use the mid-level exception for a player like Kevin Ollie.

The MLE will be used on someone else. We have Posey's "bird rights" so we don't need the MLE to sign Posey with.

I hope we get Perkins but I hear Dallas wants him too. They pick before us if I'm not mistaken.
