Just like to say Portland should draft Durant, but before that they should really shop L. Aldridge. He still is a good player and has a lot of potential, but they don't need 2 centers. They could very likely get a young SF and have a complete young team.
no, they shouldnt, and ill tell you why. 1st, aldridge is athletic enough to play the PF position. that would give them twin towers version 3 after hakeem/sampson and duncan/robinson. randolph will be the oddman out. they have 4 2nd round picks, not that it means much, but this is a deep draft for SG/SF type players. they have the 7th and 11th picks in the 2nd round. afflalo, nichols, cook, mcguire, and a few other pretty good wings could get to them in the 2nd. as much sense as it would make to draft durant, it makes just as much sense to take oden, maybe even more sense to take oden. not to mention they have martell webster who should someday turn into a pretty good player.
It would be funny for Portland to take Durant and leave Oden to Seattle, making him like their 4th center drafted in 4 years or something like that. Their like the Detroit Lions of the NBA.
Assuming Portland takes Oden, no offense to the Durant lovers out there but if i'm Seattle I think you strongly consider trading down with Atlanta for picks 3, 11 and possibly another player too since Durant is really that high profile of a draft pick. Durant is obviously a special player but having him and Rashard would be too redundant. Looking at Durant, he's so similar to Rashard -- same frame/height/weight, lights out shooter, excellent ball handling skills and prefers to play out on the perimeter. Durant is probably a better rebounder but placing that aside I think that the similarities are striking. If you draft Durant, what gives? Do you trade Rashard? Do you foolishly attempt to play Rashard at PF? Do you try to convert Durant into a PF? I guess a lot of it depends on your strategy. If you take the best player available then it's a no brainer but I really think drafting Durant would create a lot of uncertainty on that team. I suppose you could always just draft Durant then worry about making trades later.
Rashard wants out of Seattle. He opted out of the final year of his contract and basically told Sonics management to sign and trade him or he'll sign with someone else.
I've been wondering the same thing about Seattle...does that mean that Lewis might be available? If so for what price? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I would trade Durant, Watson, and the glut of PF's for Gasol, Stoudamire, and the Grizzlies 1st rounder.
Looking at Portland's roster, they are better off with Oden. Seattle, oddly enough, with its three young centers, is better off with Durant. Remember, Portland is losing Jamaal McGloire and his cap drag money. LaFrenz and Aldridge can play PF or C but, because of their weight and profile, are better off as PFs. That leaves Przybilla as the "backup" center. Not bad. Seattle, if they get Durant, then have a problem with too much SF depth -- both Lewis and Durant. If they move Durant to PF, Chris Wilcox or Nick Collison becomes expendable. I wonder whether the Rockets can profit in this. I wonder if we can extort some draft picks and/or other considerations for taking Darius Miles off their hands. I wonder if we can finally bring Rashard Lewis home. I wonder......
lol why would port pick oden? They used the #2 pick on a center last year. Get a proven scorer in durant, leave aldridge at the 5, try to get gibson cheap from the cavs ( if he is even still on the team ), it will be like what the longhorns could have been.
Re-read my second paragraph. Portland can't go wrong either way, but they have more depth problems at true center.
I just can't believe that both of these guys (Oden and Durant) are going to end up in the Western Conference. How stacked will the conference be when they get a couple years under their belts?
