AUGUST 02, 20:46 EDT Sam Mack Says He's Innocent HOUSTON (AP) — Former NBA player Sam Mack, who was arrested in a Chicago suburb in July on drug charges, said Wednesday he is innocent and expects his name to be cleared. Mack also said he did not lead police on a high speed chase just before he was arrested for possessing cocaine and mar1juana. ``When everything comes out, I wonder what people will say then,'' Mack told Houston TV station KRIV. ``I know they smeared my name real bad. But you know I'm not ashamed because I didn't do anything and I'm innocent.'' Mack, released by the Golden State Warriors in March, was arrested July 11 after officers said they found 19 bags of mar1juana in his car, along with some cocaine. Police said they stopped his car after Mack ran a stop sign and took officers on a high-speed chase through Phoenix, Ill., a Chicago suburb. Phoenix Police Sgt. Derek Guess said he isn't surprised by Mack's claims of innocence. ``Why would a guy that makes the money Sam Mack makes, why would he try to avoid a traffic ticket? Obviously because he had something in the trunk he shouldn't have had, which was mar1juana and cocaine,'' Guess said. Mack has a preliminary hearing Aug. 7 in Markham, Ill. Mack played six years in the NBA, including stints with San Antonio, Houston, Vancouver and Golden State. ------------------ Just shut up and post

I have no pity for anyone who ruins their life by dealing with drugs. Especially a professional athlete who makes more in a year than I will probably make in 10. ------------------ Soon to be a Member of CCC. inc Pledgee T_Man

Didn't Puff hang out with Sam Mack sometimes when it still seemed like a possibility that he could resign with the Rockets last season? Is Puff still around? ------------------ Get Bo!
I'm not judging if Sam is a nice guy or not. Actually I can't because I never met him. But I cannot see me having pity for any individual who does any type of drugs. ------------------ Soon to be a Member of CCC. inc Pledgee T_Man
Hey guys, I am always here. Yeah I kow Sam pretty well, and I think he is innocent, but guilty for stupidity. I will talk with him soon, since the whole thing I have not heard from him. I don't think he deals or does it, but who knows, I hope the best for him, he really is a cool guy. ------------------ A Chuck paraphrase: It was surreal! And I don't even know what that means! "I cannot see me having pity for any individual who does any type of drugs. " Wow, you must not be forgiving to billions of the unlucky masses that have done drugs. Anyway, I don't know Sam Mack personally. I just hold personal grudges against him for Rocket fans thinking he was once of the top bench players when it comes to the swing positions. AWWW!!! Brings back nightmares of irrelevant debates about Mack......I can't forget the past. WHERE ARE ALL THOSE SAM MACK BACKERS NOW? BRING IT ON!!! Like I said last summer, and like I've said for every year since 1995, Sam Mack IS A SCRUB!!! ------------------
I take it you've never had alcohol, smoked a cigarette, taken any prescriptions or even over the counter medicine. Show me one person that says "I've never done drugs, I'll show you a liar." ------------------ "I've been licking this carpet for hours and I still don't feel like a lesbian!"
Not guilty huh? Whatever wrath he gets, he deserves, even if it was not his. What is he doing with it? I just have a problem with all the professional athletes saying they didn't do anything, saying that they are just the focus of attention because they are athletes (i.e. Ray Lewis, OJ). I mean how stupid can they be? If you are living the good life (something that most of us can only dream about) why do something to screw it up? I say if you know you are hanging with the wrong people, sever those ties. Is it really worth going to jail for? I really liked Mack, and hope he is not dealing or doing, but he should not have been in the car with that stuff. ------------------ [This message has been edited by BayouRocket (edited August 03, 2000).]
I saw him interview on TV last night and he said he didn't run a stop sign, didn't lead them on a chase, and there were no drugs in his car when the police stopped him. He said he's had problems with the police in the area before because of the cars he drives and the envy/jealousy of the police. He also said the cops were black, so it's (the framing) not racially motivated, but they are prejudiced against his money. He said he would be cleared on 8-7 in court when the facts came out. Big talk. ------------------ Bad spellers of the world: UNTIE!
Say Pimp, You are correct I have dranked alcohol and taken PRESCRIPTION Drugs. Drugs that are prescribed by a doctor with a degree. Not by a doctor standing on the street corner trying to sell me a dime bag. Cocaine and other drugs are a choice that you make in life. You know that it's wrong from the time you put yourself in that position. So if any athlete or person for that matter puts themselves in that position, then stand up and face the consequences. I can forgive you and try to help you, but I will not have pity for you. I know and you probably know too many guys that could have been the next great somebody. But they got caught up in the Drug game. That was there choice, not mine. They choose to take a chance to ruin their life, I choose to make a success out of mine. Why is it that we can have pity for an athlete when they get caught doing something wrong (probably someone we do not know personally), but we cannot forgive or try to help someone we do know. ------------------ Soon to be a Member of CCC. inc Pledgee T_Man

Have you ever seen an interview with a convicted prisoner? They'll tell you they're innocent too. Old School ------------------ Just Build It!
Wasn't he found innocent in a court of law? ------------------ "Your not a real member of CC.net unless you have 1000 posts" [This message has been edited by BobFinn* (edited August 03, 2000).]
