Is it just more, or does anyone else think RA should be throwing Pops into the game more often then he is? One thing we sorely lack is athleticism/length/above the rim play and he is the only one on our roster (outside of maybe Landry) that can do that from the 4 or 5 spot. Against bigger front courts - ahem Mavs? - he needs to be used especially when Scola is constantly getting beaten off the dribble - ahem Dirk?

If nothing else, Pops is a huge energy guy to have off the bench and IMO that is something we could have used in a game like today to try and stop the run that the Mavs went on. A monster dunk, or a big block can change the momentum of a game and other than Landry, NO ONE, on our roster has the ability to do that.

I think RA needs to look at other ways to get us back into games other than just ISO Brooks for kickouts to our 3 point shooter and Pops is a good option IMO.

Just my two cents. Anyone else agree??

PS. Apologies for bad langauge/grammer. Its late in Sydney and its been a long day. Peace.

You are worried about bad langauge/grammer on this Board? Oh, my - you are so far off. But, to your point which is reasonable, I ask the one question: whose minutes get cut?

IMHO this game was a glaring example of what McG could be - a creator. These guys are fun and overachievers and the best damn role players and they are our team but what they are not is offensively gifted. I think I just described Pops, as well.

I agree with most of your post. But I don´t understand is how Pops is going to help us getting back in the games. While Pops may have some moves it is celar he is by no means a scorer.

When Hayes leaves the game Pops gives us the least amount of dropoff in defense in the post. I think he deserves a few minutes most nights.

Last night we should of put pops on dirk. I remember when we put Andersen on Dirk last night for a little while, the length of Andersen somewhat bother him on his fade-away shots. We needed length last night to guard Dirk and Pop was what we needed.

i was at the game and pops looked bad against mavs bench warmers. he just kept jumping like a pogo stick while trying to play interior defense.

I agree he needs more time on the floor. And I think he'll make the most of it.

But not at the expense of D.Andersen.

We need to know what Andersen brings to the table in the NBA arena as Yao's backup for next year. 6 or 7 games in will not tell us anything substantial we can't already figure out.

We need to help him get acclimated to the strong kung fu of the NBA.

And kicking him down the bench will NOT help Yao.

But yea, pops does warrant a few more minutes.

Pops definitely deserves some minutes...He was puttin up some solid numbers in the preseason plus can run the court very well unlike anderson....He can throw it down better than anyone on our team...What do we have to lose by giving him a shot.

Andersen can't run the floor

Sure, he's got a long way to go in the strength department, but he IS mobile.

I agree on needing Pops length out there - we have a real problem in our big man department; each of them is almost a good player.

I'll say that Scola is a genuinely good 4 in this league - but he's unathletic and so won't block shots, so we need to pair him with a 6'9+ shot-blocker.

Our 'other 4' bigs in the rotation don't fit the bill.
Hayes would be perfect if he was 5' taller.
Landry would be fine if his arms weren't so damn short.
Pops would be great if he could just learn to curb his enthusiasm
Andersen would be super if he could just learn to box out.

Of the 4, only Pops is a genuine 'shot-blocker' with the instincts, Landry probably WOULD be if his vertical reach wasn't so dwarfish...

The single biggest issue on this team is the lack of a 'clogger' when Yao is unavailable. The one move that I'd love to see Morey make is to bring back a 'long 5' who makes one of those 4 mentioned players redundant.

I'd be all over trading Battier and Landry for Camby. Unfortunately the Clippers are probably quite happy with Camby...

Anders will get longer than 7 games to learn the NBA styles. He is obviously having trouble adjusting to the length, physicality and athleticism of NBA players.

He will get plenty of time to adjust and if he doesn't eventually get it, pops will get his shot.

Knee jerk reaction as per usually by the forum.

It wasn't a knee jerk reaction at all. The David Anderson thread that was created after the first pre-season game was a knee-jerk reaction. The 3 games we have lost have come against teams with big/long front courts. This isnt surprising because of our lack of size but I believe Pops should at least be given an opportunity.

I'm not talking about him being a scoring spark, more of a momentum changer with a couple of blocks or a big dunk as well as his hustle. I'm just saying, in a game like the Mavs, where NOTHING was dropping for us, he could be useful because no one else really has the ability to do that.

You can not possibly be serious... I wouldn't trade either one of them straight up for Camby (salary cap considerations aside.) Hes older than Deke!!

GUYS. Pops Mensah-Bonsu is not here to score. He is here to play defense in the paint, block shots, and intimidate the other teams offense.

Thats what i am trying to say. Thats the spark he can provide for us. It doesn't invovle scoring the ball, but the things you mentioned can swing the momentum in games - something we couldnt do against the Mavs. It isnt going to work everytime, im just saying he should get a shot every now and then when other things arent working for us - ie. scoring the ball.

OMG I wonder if Pops will be the new Von Wafer on this board. An overrated guy who just barely made the last cut. guys need to just leave it alone and face the fact that he is riding the end of the bench.

Actually he's the first to come off the pine outside the rotation.
