I always love some new developments and changes on websites I visit. But what about you guys. What do you think of the new Rockets.com website? http://www.rockets.com
I love the design, and i dig the new wallpaper too. Why Battier is on there, i don't know but anyways, it looks great.
Thank god they changed it. We looked so far behind compared to the rest of the league in the media rich website department...lets see how it continues to change daily when the season starts, as far as content goes.
I thought the intro clip was gay. The whole "look into my eyes" is too vampire to me, to corny. We could have gone another way entirely with the intro clip, like reverse. Run with this idea my fellow Clutchfans: Start with jump ball Show some highlights Show some lowlights Show McGrady go down Show Allstar-Yao Show Mcgrady in street clothes cheer for Yao Show Yao dominate Show Yao go down ...THEN show the images pan out into the eye of the picture they use of Yao in the flash file. It gives the idea those memories are unshakable, Yao will NOT forget them. He will focus on making his team better, himself better, themselves champions. The whole "getting inside of Yao's head" style they used was ok, but SEEING what WILL make Yao a monster this season, that would excite me more than what Rockets.com created.
Good thing they didn't pluck his eyebrows either. Yao's not meant to look metro-sexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I don't like it when websites "autoplay" video for me. Very annoying. If I want to see the video, I'll click the play button. I'm going to hold back on voting for now though until I let the new site sink in. Of course, it doesn't really matter since I get most of my Rocks news elsewhere. Rockets.com is usually a little slow getting news out about their team.
I like it. Good job. But one thing I never understood was the equal treatment of the small drop-down menu. Certainly a few of the drop-downs are used far more than others and deserve their own premium real estate elsewhere on the page.
I personally don't like the new marketing campaign which only shows the players eyes. I would rather see a huge ass billboard of T-Mac in the air going for a mad dunk instead of two eyes staring at me.
I'm sorry, this website is not very good at all. I can break down a few fundamental things... 1. The main navigation is definitely not apparent. I'm guessing it's the red bar at the top, but it blends too easily and the text isn't broken apart at all, so it's tough to read. The secondary nav isn't established either. 2. When you create a website, you need to make sure the users eye moves through the content easily. Usually in a Z pattern from top left to bottom right. This website fails on numerous levels, the main photos (eyes) being the strongest reason, aside from the dominant red on the right. That said, you keep ending up at the top right, it's because of the direction of yao and tmac's eyes. 3. Stay focused!! This website has entirely too much going on and need to scale back. They need to figure out what exactly a rockets user wants to see and tailor to that. In addition, they have things in random places... the search feature is hidden in the middle left near the Rockets Poll. Why? 4. Marquee text is sadly outdated and unnecessary, you have a "headlines section" and "other content" section, you don't need to flood the viewer with more information. It's simply not possible for someone to digest all the information at once. If any of the designers read this, please contact me. I'll help.
No question about it, that's the first thing I thought too. The website is poorly made as far as usability goes. The important stuff is hard to find. You only see big images that lead to nothing.
