With some people questioning how well Stevie can ever run the team, it seems like a point-forward-type a la Lamar Odom/Snottie Pippen could really transform the team, open up options like the 3-guard lineup does. So what guys in the draft 6-7 or taller have good enough handles to free up Stevie? Qyntel Woods? Grizzard? Jeffries?
I'm sick of bringing him up, but Dunleavy at 6 ft 8 or 6 ft 9 has good ball handling and passing skills. There are no Joe Johnson's in the upcoming draft I don't think.
I think Grizzard could be a point-forward type--he can really handle the ball. There's a guy from Fresno State that they have been comparing to Pippen, but I forget his name.
John Salmons of Miami plays a pseudo-PG at 6'7'', but he's not a lotto type player. He may make a decent late-first rounder, but no sure fire starting SF.
Chris Jeffries is the kid from Fresno St. that the compare to Pippen..He a legit big man with handles as well although I would prefer the Jeffries kid from IU
Luke Walton, son of Bill Walton and SF on Arizona team, is averaging around 6 assists per game. He is often said to have outstanding defensive skills and called "Mr Intangibles." I doubt that he is Shane Battier, but he might be worth a look if he decides to come out this year.
Luke will prob be a mid 2nd rounder, but a steal at that. He needs to improve his athleticism, as well as improving the range on his jumper.
I thought that Luke Walton was only 6' 4-5"? Two years ago, he was a backup guard. Did he grow or is he a small college forward?
I have seen Luke Walton listed at 6'8" one of them is listed below. http://nbadraft.net/profiles/lukewalton.htm
No, I think Luke's always been a SF/PF. His future lies at SF when/if he goes to the NBA. He might be a poor man's Chris Mullin. Without the shooting range.
dunleavy is possibly everything the rockets could want in their small-forward, at least offensively. he can shoot, he can pass, and most importantly he's smart. after yao ming this would be the guy i would like the rockets to get if he comes out. i think the overrated card gets played on him alot simply because he's a lanky white guy.
This is the same thing a lot -- a lot -- of boardsters here said about Mike Miller before he was drafted. Oops, Rookie of the Year. Sorry, a lot of people on the board don't like to be reminded of their "he sucks" posts.
in my opinion the best player in this draft is w/out question jason williams. I dont know anything about this guy named yao ming but he cant be too much better than wang shushu which leads me to think that the 2nd best player in this draft in mike dunleavy. From there i think the rest of the field is even. Mike dunleavy however isnt getting too much run w/ other people b/c j will is on his team and is getting all the pub. I wish Mike would stop w/ his scoring outbursts b/c he is jumping up on other people's draft boards. Rudy's philosophy is to get the best player possible, so if he doesnt get j will, get dunleavy. I also think dunleavy would be available to us as long as he doesnt keeping hitting those midcourt shots To all who watch college bball, you know that mike dunleavy would be the best fit for the rockets. If we dont get dunleavy i think we should trade down and send kt to the clips for lamar. Hey maybe, just maybe once we get dunleavy we can get rid of dan langhi
Swift-Don't look now, but some moron will say that Dunleavy is the next Langhi. (I've heard that BS before).
Lets just trade our 2 - first rounders (or whatever it takes) for odom!!! No way clippers max out Brand & Odom. Besides we need a SF, that looks to create (pass). Maybe he can teach some of the guys, in our current roster, how to play unselfish ball. Our luck, the Rockets will go on a winning streak (like 2 years ago) and take a possible #5-6 Pick, and turn it into a #9.
Good God you are so off base. Miller won ROY with basically a ten ppg average. Put in perspective, Sean Elliot was 2nd team rookie his rookie year and he averaged 10 ppg. BTW, it seemed like everyone here wanted either Mike Miller or Dermarr Johnson when that draft came up. Were you around when that happened? We were so disappointed when both of those guys were picked ahead of us. Rudy and most of this board coveted both Miller and Johnson. I don't know when race became an issue. I would still love to have Miller on the Rockets, but he isn't that good.
gr8-1 are you watching the same game as I am watching. Man Id die to have Mike Miller on the rockets, with him at sf that would be crazy!! Mike Miller has mad game, he can take it to the rack w/ authority and finish, as well as nail the 3 pt shot. You know how bill and calvin say it takes 3 yrs for a player to completely develop, well look out for mike miller he's goin to be an allstar next year. And for all those people who say white people cant dunk, tell you what mike miller is one who bends those rules. He 's the first white person that I ve seen pull of some sick dunks. p.s. On a side note man i m really getting tired of bill saying how old eddie is. When me and my sis watch the game I can almost predict when he's goin to say it "Folks, he's only 19 yrs old" This is so annoying, everyone knows he 's 19 get over it bill move on!!!!!!!!
Ah, yes, someone who agrees with me. Or, rather, let me agree with you. The two picks' dollar value will meet Odom's (pre-extension contract) and would fit in well with Donald Ironically-Named "Sterling"'s cheapo ways.
